Description

The Discipleship Year Program in Washington, DC is posting one of our openings on idealist.org today. We are seeking to fill our Volunteer Corps House with six interns beginning mid-August and serving for a year. Our Interns serve full time in area non-profits. One of these is the Briya Public Charter School, affiliated with Mary Center. Briya provides typing classes and computer literacy assistance to Immigrant Adults. This position is a typing assistant with very basic learners.

Each intern lives in a group house w/ the others who are serving. They all receive free room/board and health insurance coverage. Transportation to/from their service site is paid for, along with everyone receiving a monthly stipend of $275. Our of this monthly stipend, each intern gives $110 to their household to purchase food jointly. The members eat meals together, participate in a weekly seminar and attend classes at the Soteria Community School. Find out more about us on: www.festivalcenter.org/discipleshipyear.

Benefits

Briya Public Charter School serves Immigrants from all over the world, with a heavy concentration from El Salvador. Most of their students speak Spanish so any Spanish speaking ability is helpful when serving in this location, although not required.
