Leadership for Educational Equity (LEE) is a nonprofit leadership development organization inspiring and supporting a network of civic leaders to eradicate the injustice of educational inequity.
Through one-on-one coaching, fellowships, workshops, and resources, LEE works to develop and inspire its members individually and collectively, across all disciplines – as policy makers, advocates, elected leaders and community organizers. LEE membership is free and currently open to alumni of several partner organizations including Teach For America, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI), New Leaders, Latinos for Education, Urban Teachers, and Public Allies. LEE believes that when a diverse group of leaders, grounded in a commitment to equity, are in leadership roles, they will serve as a transformative force for and with students and communities.

LEE is seeking a Director of Organizing Strategy (DOS) in the Los Angeles region. This Director takes the lead on local community organizing efforts, strategy, and coaching. This Director should bring the skills and enthusiasm to recruit and coach a group of organizers through LEE’s organizing cycle framework, and grow the overall base of LEE members participating in the LEE-supported collective action network.
LEE is looking for a strategic leader with strong relationship building skills, a history of leading teams to success, an understanding of the political and education policy landscape of the Los Angeles region, which includes membership in Los Angeles and adjacent counties, the skills to support a LEE member led community organizing effort in the region, and the ability to inspire and recruit members to participate in broad organizing efforts. As LEE’s digital engagement initiatives grow, this Director will be tasked with supporting members’ journeys through blended learning - digital and in-person engagement and action.
The Director plays an important role in the region with the primary focus being developing strong relationships with and among LEE members and leading those members through the stages of the organizing cycle to drive meaningful impact for kids.
This position is on the Regional Impact (RI) team at LEE. The RI team is composed of field staff all over the country responsible for the development and coaching of members across multiple pathways - including policy, advocacy, community organizing and elected leadership.
The Director, Organizing Strategy reports to the Director, Impact in the region. In addition to the successful execution of community organizing efforts as described above, the Director is also responsible for leading member outreach, coaching and programs for other initiatives, as assigned by the Director, Impact in the region.
Position Location: Los Angeles
Travel Requirements: 10% minimum outside the region (for team events and national programming; this could increase at times based on interest/onboarding needs); frequent travel throughout the region. All travel is pending due to current restrictions on in-person engagement due to COVID-19.
