Assist with after school programming for school aged residents of an affordable housing community on St. Paul's East side. This internship requires regular interaction with youth and families from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
This internship is ideal for college students looking for hands on experience with youth.
-Assess youth (K-5th) literacy skills on sight recognition and reading fluency
-Provide safe, enjoyable experience to all program participants
-Perform positive tutor-child relationships
-Provide one-on-one tutoring
-Compile data and report data back to supervisor
-When pre/post- tests are completed, assist program staff and help youth with homework
-Supervise youth in age-appropriate activities and field trips
-Internship Spring term: January 3rd – May 30th with a stipend of $1,000 awarded at completion
-Intern must be available for program hours 3:00 pm - 5:45 pm Monday-Thursday
-Potential continuation into the summer program as a part-time staff
Experience & Qualification Requirements:
-Experience working with and planning activities for youth
-High School Diploma or GED
-Interest in working with people of diverse backgrounds
-Self-directed, motivated, organized, creative, and energetic
-Strong communication and mediation skills
-Applicants must be able to pass a criminal background check
Ability to perform a variety of physical activities with program participants which may include, but are not limited to walking, standing for long periods of time, running, throwing, swimming, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Level of Language Proficiency
English is required. Spanish is helpful, but not required.
