Job Description: Marketing Outreach Officer – The Canadian Encyclopedia

Full-Time, Contract Position

The Canadian Encyclopedia is a free, bilingual online resource offering more than 20,000 fact-checked articles and learning tools about Canada’s history and culture.


The Marketing and Outreach Officer will be an individual who is passionate about the work of Historica Canada, has had experience working with a team to achieve deliverables in a timely fashion and is enthusiastic about promoting digital projects for all Canadians. The responsibilities of the Marketing and Outreach Officer may include:

·      Creating and implementing a marketing and outreach strategy, under the direction of the –Director of Branding & Development, to promote The Canadian Encyclopedia to audiences including teachers, students, media and the general public

·      Writing content, designing creatives and managing paid campaigns for HC’s social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest and LinkedIn

·      Researching and coordinating advertising opportunities

·      Working with HC’s Design Officer and external designers to create compelling ad campaigns, creatives and promotional materials

·      Conduct outreach and promote The Encyclopedia to a wide variety of stakeholders, including community organizations, educator networks, schools, boards, and media

·      Register and attend conferences and festivals on behalf of HC (when appropriate & following COVID protocols)

·      Projecting and overseeing The Encyclopedia’s Programming and Outreach budget with direction from Director of Branding & Development

·      Creating press releases, pitches, e-blasts and newsletters

·      Coordinating and creating monthly Mailchimps to promote all HC programs

·      Building new cross-promotional and content partnerships for The Encyclopedia and HC programs

·      Creating and distributing annual HC content calendar marking notable dates and anniversaries

·      Preparing and uploading timely themed content for website homepage

·      Participating in weekly Editorial/Comms meetings and monthly Coordinators meetings

·      Coordinating integration of HC resources, videos and new content into The Encyclopedia

·      Preparing The Encyclopedia articles for distribution on social media by adding Twitter Cards, relevant media and fixing formatting issues

·      Analyzing The Encyclopedia’s user and teacher survey results

·      Manage The Encyclopedia’s Editorial email and field permission requests

·      Supporting web team’s review and analysis of Google Analytics to develop new and evolving marketing outreach strategies

·      Working with Director of Branding & Development to manage HC’s Google Grant campaigns

·      Tracking and assessing outreach campaign results and media coverage

·      Assist Managing Editor of TCE in writing reports

·      Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • University or College degree in related field;
  • Bilingual (English and French) is a must*;
  • At least 1 year professional working experience in marketing/communication is a must, experience in the non-profit, heritage or education sector an asset;
  • Experience with social media platforms required;
  • Excellent communications skills;
  • Excellent telephone and email etiquette
  • Excellent attention to detail;

·      Team player and demonstrated strong interpersonal skills;

·      Flexible and easily adaptable to change;

·      Interest in Canadian history, culture;

·      Skills in photo editing, graphics and Adobe programs an asset;


All candidates who indicate fluency in French will undertake a French language assessment (written and verbal) as part of the selection process.


This is a contract position starting immediately and ends on March 31, 2023, with possibility of renewal. The salary will be $44,000 annually, less applicable statutory deductions, which will be paid to the successful candidate twice a month.

This position is based at Historica Canada’s Head Office in Toronto. However, qualified distance candidates will be considered. Please note: all of Historica Canada’s team is currently working remotely. Once it is deemed safe and advisable to do so by the City’s public health authorities, and in accordance with Historica Canada’s Remote Work Policy, staff may choose to work from the office, or continue to work remotely.


When Covid-19 public health guidelines allow for it, this position may require travel (air and ground) within Canada and subject to government safety protocols.
