Position Summary

The Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault (IowaCASA) is seeking an experienced sexual assault or mental health advocate to join our dedicated and passionate team. The position will work collaboratively in a team to develop and implement our Disabilities Grant Project. This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, knowledge of sexual violence and/or mental health issues and dynamics, and ability to work independently state wide.

Bi-lingual and Black, Indigenous, People of Color encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

  • An understanding of and experience with organizing or working in marginalized communities in Iowa, or another state with similar demographics
  • Experience in disability and/or sexual assault advocacy
  • An understanding of issues surrounding social justice and sexual violence work
  • Knowledge and understanding of capacity building strategies and community partnerships
  • Sensitivity to and knowledge of issues involved in working with diverse populations and organizations
  • Ability to grow, learn, lead, follow, organize, vision, and follow through on projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time, work independently and with a team, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to convey information effectively to adult learners
  • Commitment to multicultural perspective in outreach, and services delivery and commitment to social change
  • Basic computer skills
  • Availability for overnight travel

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the research and development of a Needs Assessment Plan
  • Participate in community engagement and recruitment with project co-directors
  • Assist with coordination of a needs assessment, which include securing accessible logistics, co-facilitating meetings, and collecting necessary data
  • Assist with analyzing and organizing data collection to create a Findings Report
  • Help identify local resources in the community
  • Assess needs of survivors with marginalized identities to enhance services and linkage with comprehensive sexual assault programs
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to improve services to individuals with disabilities who are survivors of sexual violence
  • Implement project goals, objectives, and activities
  • Plan, coordinate and participate in meetings and conference calls
  • Accept and abide by the mission and philosophy of IowaCASA
  • Demonstrate a commitment to anti-racism and social justice values, ethics, and work
  • Other duties as assigned

Status: Exempt

Hours per week: Part-Time – 30 hours/week

Minimum Starting Salary: $35,568

Position reports to: IowaCASA Survivor Services & Training Specialist

Other requirements: Requires extensive statewide travel and occasional national travel. Proof of valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and auto insurance required; or ability to use alternate transportation. This position is located in Des Moines, Iowa.*

*Currently, due to the COVID pandemic, IowaCASA staff is not traveling and are either working from home or in a socially-distanced space at the main IowaCASA office. If it becomes safe to travel, according to medical authorities, the position would require travel.*
