Manager, Art Direction


UNICEF USA’s in-house creative department has an immediate need for a mid-level to senior art director. You will be working with a copy partner (please feel free to apply as a team if you have a partner already) on integrated campaigns to help acquire individual donors and generate funding for UNICEF’s work around the world.

Key Responsibilities/Outcomes (include but are not limited to):

  • Overall: Help create messaging that supports UNICEF USA in its goal to raise funds from small/individual donors within the United States
  • Assist in concepting and executing UNICEF USA’s “Moments” campaigns throughout the year
  • Brainstorm ideas to help improve and optimize individual aspects of each campaign
  • Work with UNICEF colleagues to define and deliver on various departmental communications needs
  • Execute as-needed deliverables around global events (planned, such as UN-recognized awareness days, and unplanned, such as responses to natural and humanitarian disasters)
  • Assist in the production of various UNICEF USA special events, from summits to galas to advocacy
  • Help steward the UNICEF USA brand, and protect its quality and consistency
  • Help maintain UNICEF USA’s paid online presence, through web and social
  • Assisting in internal UNICEF USA communication materials, from one-pagers to toolkits to annual reports
  • Help curate and update UNICEF USA’s asset library


  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in an art director or graphic designer role
  • Established partnership with a copywriter of similar experience preferred
  • Up-to-date resume and portfolio of marketing communications
  • Ability to think strategically, understand underlying objectives, and suggest creative solutions
  • Experience with best practices of digital/social marketing
  • Experience across media channels a plus (i.e. broadcast, websites, social, print, collateral)
  • Experience in event planning a plus.
  • Understanding/familiarity with global affairs preferred
  • Willingness to apply the same enthusiasm across all levels of assignments
  • Ability to respect and work within budget constraints
  • Ability to work productively with external vendors and agencies
  • Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and prioritize while working under multiple deadlines
  • Should possess an entrepreneurial spirit and a high degree of creativity
  • Ability to occasionally travel to domestic and international developing country locations
  • Experience with industry standard design software on a Mac
