Orange County Congregation Community Organization (OCCCO) is a 501c3 nonprofit community organization that works to empower individuals and congregations to make positive, lasting change within low-income communities of color. We offer leadership development, inclusive faith-based community organizing, and voter engagement. Our current work focuses on Housing with Dignity, Education Justice, and Immigration Rights. OCCCO is a member of Faith in Action which connects the efforts of faith-based low-income community organizations across the country.


Position Summary

The Fundraising Specialist will join an active team of staff, board members, and grassroots leaders who work together for the dignity of all people in Orange County. This person will be passionate about social justice and civic engagement. The Fundraising Specialist will implement our strategic fundraising plan, working collaboratively with the Executive Director. Areas of focus include grant writing, donor communication, and event planning in support of the organization’s fundraising goals.


Responsibilities

Grant Writing

  • Identify grant funding opportunities.
  • Write and submit grant proposals.
  • Furnish prospective funders with supporting documents.
  • Collaborate with Executive Director and Director of Community Organizing to submit required reports on grant deliverables.
  • Report to the Board of Directors on fund development activities and grants management.
  • Maintain grant records in hard copies and computer databases.

Donor Development

  • Implement our current annual donor development plan, track progress, and update plans in subsequent years.
  • Collaborate with ED to apply strategic communications in alignment with and support of fundraising goals.
  • Generate and distribute fundraising and promotional materials for specific audiences, including appeal letters, thank-you letters, and other donor communications.
  • Use email marketing, social media, website, and direct mail to encourage greater buy-in, support, and participation in OCCCO’s work.

Event Planning

  • Collaborate with ED in event planning meetings for annual fundraising gala.
  • Negotiate costs and services with vendors; book event space, arrange food and beverage, order supplies/decorations, and coordinate audiovisual equipment & operation.
  • Work with ED to create event sponsorship packages and solicit event sponsorships.
  • Using multi-channel marketing, promote event ticket sales.
  • Organize and implement the invitation, registration, and attendee check-in processes.
  • Collaborate with event committee on event program and entertainment.
  • Coordinate event logistics and clean up.
  • Send post-event acknowledgements for sponsor and donor stewardship.


Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in nonprofit fundraising, including grant writing, donor development, and event planning.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of the basic components of successful fundraising strategies and programs.
  • Competency using Google Drive and MS Office; familiarity with database programs; graphic design skills a plus.
  • Competency using social media and email marketing tools (we use Facebook and MailChimp)
  • Ability to relate effectively with diverse audiences, including board members, major donors, staff, and grassroots leaders.
  • Ability to work independently, problem solve, and work as part of a cohesive and collaborative team.
