Reporting to the Director of Strategic Initiatives, the Strategic Initiatives Manager (SIM) works closely to support the network of CRED-funded citywide street outreach partners (e.g., CP4P, READI, CRED-Direct grantees), CRED consultants working on strategic initiatives (e.g., 2020 VISION), and also works collaboratively with the entire CRED team towards its mission to achieve a transformative reduction in Chicago’s gun violence. Position will work on a portfolio of citywide strategic initiatives.   

The SIM will primarily be responsible to provide ongoing program support to CRED’s network of citywide street outreach investments and work on a portfolio of short and longer-term strategic initiatives (e.g., FLIP strategy, 2020 VISION social media strategy, etc.) with a range of citywide violence reduction partners. This position commands an experienced, highly motivated violence reduction professional with a flexible schedule (e.g., work weekends, early a.m. shifts, etc.) and intimate knowledge of Chicago-based violence dynamics. The position requires the capacity to work effectively across teams, run multiple projects concurrently with varying sets of deliverables, while adhering to aggressive timelines. A dedication to CRED’s mission is essential.  

Core Duties  

Citywide Site-Field Visits  

  • Conduct weekly site and field visits in support of CRED’s network of citywide street outreach investments (e.g., CP4P, READI, CRED-direct grantees) engaging management and field staff, participating in violence reduction activities, conducting field observations (e.g., identifying promising practices, program and training needs, gaps in services, etc.) and providing supports for violence reduction strategies (e.g., early a.m. shifts, non-aggression agreements, etc.) 
  • Document site and field visits to be logged in CRED’s Salesforce database. Provide feedback to relevant stakeholders including CRED teams and community partners to inform violence reduction efforts, investments, and grant compliance. Documenting activities will also enable quantification of program and technical supports over time (level of intensity to calibrate program support needs and investments) for citywide strategic initiatives.     
  • Interact/engage field managers (CP4P), community partners, members of citywide Outreach City Council, and other Program Technical Assistant support staff in support of CRED’s mission 

Support Development and Implementation of Strategic Initiatives 

Position to work closely under supervision of Director of Strategic Initiatives to develop, implement, revise strategies, and to train, monitor, provide oversight, and to track a portfolio of citywide Strategic Initiatives:  

  • Non-aggression agreements 
  • 2020 VISION social media strategy 
  • FLIP 4.0 
  • Body armor pilot 
  • Street Outreach performance tool 
  • Citywide Outreach Council 
  • Others as assigned 

Participate in Violence Reduction Activities and Reporting 

  • Attend CRED/Emerson meetings 
  • Attend Regional Coordination meetings 
  • Attend CP4P and READI meetings and activities (as appropriate) 
  • Complete program documentation and reports as assigned  

Qualifications & Competencies 

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field (e.g., sociology, psychology, human services, etc.) preferred 
  • A minimum of five years of street outreach and/or comparable violence reduction field experience serving population with highest risk for gun violence  
  • Intimate knowledge of Chicago violence dynamics, and community-specific dynamics 
  • Experience developing and/or implementing violence reduction models/strategies/approaches  
  • Strong communication, writing, and critical thinking skills 
  • Strong de-escalation and conflict mediation skills 
  • Flexibility to work varying hours, daily shifts, weekends, etc. based upon need 
  • Highly knowledgeable (high-level street smarts) and high degree of comfort to navigate across Chicago communities with complex and changing violence dynamics, to conduct field visits and participate in community activities, while adhering to safety protocols to minimize risks  
  • Ability to work in high-stress environments 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet aggressive deadlines  
  • Ability to work both independently and across teams 
  • Ability to work carefully with sensitive and confidential data
