The Opportunity.

Stewards perform routine maintenance on Trustees properties, caring for the fields, trails, gardens, structures, trailhead parking areas, and other natural and cultural features. Day-to-day operations include a variety of tasks including mowing lawn areas, trimming brush, trash cleaning, maintaining walking trails, and engaging visitors. This position provides great experience in the logistics of park management, natural resources conservation, wildlife management, landscaping, and other related fields. There are two seasonal position opportunities; one part-time (24hr/week) from June - August and one full-time (40hr/week) from May - October. Positions are based out of Doyle Community Park in Leominster, MA but will travel to other properties throughout central MA.


In This Role You Will:

  • Routine maintenance of landscapes including mowing fields and lawns, tree and shrub care, and brush removal
  • Constructing and maintaining parking areas, fences, and trails
  • Maintaining buildings and structures, including using carpentry tools, paint brush, and other hand tools
  • Removing trash and litter
  • Working with volunteers on property needs
  • Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation

These are seasonal, non-exempt, hourly paid position, with an optimal start date in May or early June and likely ending in September or late October. The positions are based in Leominster, MA.

Level of Language Proficiency

Experience:

  • Strong interest in and some experience with landscape management, trail maintenance, and structural maintenance.

 

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills to interact with the public.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member.
  • Proven ability to complete assigned tasks and projects, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks.
  • Experience using commercial grade landscape equipment (mowers/string trimming/etc.).
  • Experience with safe use of chainsaws, tractors, and other heavy equipment is a plus.
  • Strong commitment to the mission of The Trustees of Reservations.

 

Other:                                       

  • The ability to work in all weather conditions, lift up to 40 pounds, push and pull heavy objects and climb ladders is required. 
  • Valid driver’s license required for driving Trustees vehicles.
  • CORI check required.
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends is required.
  • Ability to obtain DOT physical card within 30 days.

 

Organizational Relationships/Scope:

  • Reports to the Stewardship Team Leader; has no direct reports.
