Snider Hockey is a nationally acclaimed non-profit that uses the sport of hockey to educate and empower under-resourced youth of Philadelphia to prosper in the game of life. Evidence-based outcomes are young citizens who:

  • Achieve academic success as they matriculate from Crayons through College;
  • Consistently make healthy and thoughtful life choices;
  • Serve as positive role models to the next generation of Snider Hockey student-athletes;
  • Realize gainful and rewarding employment; and
  • Give back to their community.

Snider Hockey works with school-aged youth throughout the Philadelphia area in year-round programming focused on hockey, education, and life skills. Once students graduate from high school, they become Snider Hockey Alumni. The Postsecondary Education Coordinator will strengthen and deepen the support provided to Snider Hockey Alumni enrolled in postsecondary education.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • The primary function of this position is to support Snider Hockey students enrolled in postsecondary education. This support will start with the transition from high school to college, trade school, etc. and will end with the completion of the degree or certificate program.
  • Develop, coordinate, and execute programming and practices to support first-generation, low-income students leading to increased student retention and academic outcomes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Snider Hockey Alumni, partner schools, and other stakeholders.
  • Oversee the continued success of three scholarship programs for Alumni: Goals & Assists Scholarship, Game Ready Scholarship, and the Snider Hockey Over Time (SHOT) Scholarship.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise necessary staff resources, including interns, volunteers, and employees. Coordinate, supervise, and conduct tasks related to support functions such as payroll, finance, risk management & human resources. Oversee Alumni Advisors and Peer Support Coaches.
  • Explore and help form partnerships with more non-traditional postsecondary education providers in Philadelphia and digitally. This includes programs focused on trades, specialized certificates, military, years of service, etc.
  • Travel within the Greater Philadelphia/South Jersey area is required. Flexible work schedule and ability to occasionally work nights and weekends is required.
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related majors.
  • Candidates must demonstrate experience working with youth aged 17 to 24, especially those from first-generation and/or low-income backgrounds.
  • Possess knowledge of postsecondary education options available to young adults. Candidate should be familiar with higher education, especially financial aid processes and student support services available at local colleges and universities.
  • Strong communication skills with an emphasis on interpersonal communication. Strong written and verbal communication skills are also required.
  • Previous experience supervising staff.
  • Demonstrate advanced computer literacy and an ability to interpret and learn from data.
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies, such as Snider Hockey staff, university staff, parents and community groups, as well as with diverse racial and ethnic groups.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced and high-profile environments.
  • Successful applicants must be able to pass the PA Child Abuse Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Background Check, and FBI Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
  • General knowledge of ice hockey can be helpful, but it is not mandatory.

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time limits. The position requires constant attention to precise details and specified standards including: following simple to complex (more than three steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time.


While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee will regularly operate a computer and other office devices such telephones, copy machines, fax machines, etc. Employee will occasionally move about inside office space to access storage areas, cabinets, and office machinery. Local driving in support of work-related projects is necessary. Position will require occasional pushing, pulling, lifting and/or moving.


The essential responsibilities of this position are primarily performed indoors, mainly in an office setting but including regular visits to ice hockey rinks, schools, college campuses, community centers, and special event sites (indoor/outdoor in the weather conditions prevalent at the time). The noise level in these work environments can range from moderate to loud during events/programs, and is minimal during non-event/program times.


Most work is completed during standard weekday hours. Occasional night and/or weekend duties in the Greater Philadelphia area are required.
