Position Details

The California Film Institute (CFI) is looking for someone to support the Development Department's fundraising efforts and donor fulfillment in the lead up to and through the annual Mill Valley Film Festival, and end-of-year campaign. While this is a contract position from July through December, CFI anticipates conducting a search for the permanent position this fall and candidates are welcome to be considered for both opportunities.


Position Summary

Working under the Director of Development and alongside the Membership Department, the Development Manager will support all aspects of fundraising and fulfillment for Major Donors from $2.5k to $100k+. They will ensure all donations are accurately processed in all databases and systems, and acknowledged accordingly across print and online platforms. They will coordinate direct appeal stewardship programs in print, email and online. In the lead up to the Mill Valley Film Festival, the Manager will collaborate with other departments to coordinate the fulfillment of festival benefits, such as ticket reservations, reserved seating, early entry and special events, and provide consistent high-quality customer service throughout.


Candidates should have excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency. They should be experienced working in databases and financial systems. They should have strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent customer service skills, as well as a commitment to inclusivity and the representation of diverse team members and audiences in CFI festivals and programs.


This position is available for remote work, but candidates should be aware that in-office and on-site theater work (San Rafael, CA) will increase in the lead up to and during the Mill Valley Film Festival in October.


Scope of Work

  • Support the stewardship work of the Donor Circle portfolio with the Development Director and other CFI staff members.
  • Provide excellent customer service to ensure donors experience high-quality interactions that foster long-term engagement and investment.
  • Maintain donor records in Raiser's Edge NXT and Agile databases: enter gifts and contact reports in donor records and ensure that next steps are scheduled for all active and prospective donors. Manage the day-to-day payment processing across systems, including resolving any issues to improve the contributor's experience.
  • Maintain all information systems related to named recognition, personal information and donor benefits.
  • Support the communications and outreach of solicitation direct mailings, email and social campaigns, thank you letters, and donor recognition pieces for publications, and other materials as needed.
  • Coordinate benefit fulfillment in the lead up to and during the Mill Valley Film Festival, including tracking ticket reservations, reserved seating charts, early entry into theaters, badge delivery, online access and special events.
  • Support the Director of Development with planning, managing and tracking the end-of-year campaign through direct mail, email and social, and in-home cultivation events.
  • Routinely audit the database for duplicates and implement other database system changes as needed.
  • Work with the Finance team to reconcile finances with development systems.
  • Conduct research as needed into donors and organizations, and technologies that support the fund development process.


Requirements

  • 2+ years experience in Development, or a similar role.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Strong written and verbal communication / customer service skills.
  • Project management and teamwork ability.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work within a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to be discreet in managing confidential information.
  • Ideally the candidate will have worked with database / payment processing systems.
  • (Raiser's Edge, Stripe, Agile), communication systems (Mailchimp, Emma), and be highly proficient in Google docs and Excel.
