POSITION:      DIRECT SERVICE ASSOCIATE

LOCATION:    Hiring for positions at both Easton and Dartmouth Facilities

MISSION:       “To bring the Love and Hope of Jesus Christ to those we serve.”

SUMMARY:    My Brother’s Keeper is a Christian charity that delivers furniture, food, and Christmas gifts to those in need. This is a hands-on position providing direct services to local families in need. Daily work includes:

·        deliveries and pick-ups of food and essential furniture

·        in-facility prep work

·        supervision and education of a large volunteer corps including student-volunteers

 

ESSENTIAL / CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Help My Brother’s Keeper accomplish its mission by treating all recipients, volunteers, and donors with kindness, dignity, and respect in Christ’s name

·        Lead and physically participate in deliveries and pick-ups of furniture, food, and Christmas gifts (includes offering a crucifix on deliveries)

·        Supervise large, diverse volunteer corps

·        Educate volunteers about the complexities of our work and mission

·        Drive commercial vans and 16 ft. moving trucks

·        Make quality control decisions on furniture pick-ups

·        Prepare food packaging stations, including lifting cases of food weighing up to 60 pounds

·        Help maintain general organization and appearance of the facility, grounds, and vehicles

·        Clean furniture and perform light repair as needed

NOTE: This list is intended to summarize the core elements of the role of Direct Service Associate and other general duties are involved. For example, periodic tasks also include leading opening, lunch-time, and closing prayers along with other staff; writing newsletter articles; and assisting with set up and breakdown for special events.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

·        Deep commitment to Christian service and the mission of My Brother’s Keeper

·        Track record of teamwork and the ability to build relationships with diverse constituencies – for example, other staff, volunteers, recipients, and donors

·        Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage volunteers

·        Sufficient physical strength to lift and carry heavy furniture (refrigerators, dressers, couches) up and/or down 3 flights of stairs with one other person. Ability to lift and move inventory throughout the day, with or without assistance.

·        Valid driver’s license, ability to operate vehicles safely, and maintain a clean driving record

·        Good medical condition sufficient to pass Department of Transportation medical exam

·        Pass a Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check

·        Bachelor’s Degree (desirable but not required)

·        Proficient in basic Microsoft Office Applications

 

OTHER DESIRED QUALITIES:

·        Prior work or volunteer experience in a non-profit or mission-driven organization demonstrating a strong service orientation

·        Good logistical and analytical abilities— ability to multi-task and independently manage time

·        Sound judgment—decision-making independent of direct supervision required throughout the day, especially in matters of safety and well-being

·        Emotional intelligence to handle challenging situations as they arise

·        Flexibility and patience— ability to adapt to changes in work environment

·        Positive, joyful attitude in keeping with our culture

·        Initiative— can identify and carry out tasks independent of supervision

·        Dependability— strong accountability, takes responsibility for own actions, responds to management direction, and completes tasks on time

·        Discretion— maintain confidentiality with information related to donors and recipients

·        Mechanical skills— can operate basic tools sufficient to assemble and disassemble furniture

·        Ability to speak Spanish or Portuguese desired

 

HOURS:

·        Typical work week will be 40 hours Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM – until 5:00 PM (includes lunch period) - unless otherwise arranged in accord with role requirements and agreed with direct supervisor

·        Throughout the year, there will be occasions when Direct Service Associates will be required to start early, work late, or work on Saturday or Sunday. These hours will be eligible for overtime.  

·        In December, the Christmas Assistance Program will require evening and weekend work which will be eligible for overtime

·        Additionally, My Brother’s Keeper periodically hosts multi-day educational service retreats which require extended work hours. The Direct Service Associate may be asked to stay overnight at our facility along with the participants during these retreats.
