AmeriCorps position serving refugees and immigrant families in the Nation's Capital and Maryland.
Live in community housing located in neighborhood where Education Center, housing and support services are provided.
Become a member of a team of committed and compassionate individuals providing support and advocacy to immigrant and refugee parents and children.
Family Advocate Responsibilities:
Weekly meetings and communication with families.
Assist with identified legal/health/education priorities.
Coordination with partnering agencies providing direct services to families.
After School Program Coordinator:
Facilitate an after school program for immigrant and refugee children between the ages of three and eleven.
After School program can accommodate at capacity twenty children and takes place Monday thru Thursday in the Mary House Education Center.
Responsibilities include communication with parents and school.
Developing with team members a program that includes picking up children, providing nutritional snacks, reading and social time, and completing homework.
During the summer months the After School Coordinator, along with team will develop a summer camp program that takes place the month of July.
In exchange for your year of service you will receive a living stipend, furnished housing , health insurance and on-going professional development throughout the year. You will also be eligible for Education Award through AmeriCorps after the completion of your AmeriCorps term of service.
