KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

•Strategic influencing:

Provide strategic direction to have a measurable influence on the policies and

practice of the UN institutions based in NYC and member states that contribute to Oxfam’s priorities by

integrating advocacy, policy, partner support and other campaigning tools.

•Representation and advocacy:

Maintain a high profile, build relationships and engage with UN and

Member State targets in New York to ensure access and influence for Oxfam’s messages and

objectives. Develop, lead and implement OI advocacy strategies towards UN institutions and member states, relationship building at a senior level.

•Target manager:

Act as target manager for the UN Headquarters on all public and private engagement

of Oxfam towards the UN Headquarter institutions, with sign off responsibilities

for advocacy and media products related to this target.

•Policy development:

Develop policy, write and contribute to briefing papers, media briefs, strategies, articles for publications, speeches, advocacy letters, blogs and other written materials related to the UN

headquarters in NYC, in collaboration with advocacy and policy colleagues across countries, regions, Oxfam affiliates and Oxfam International.

•Coordination, management and fundraising

Facilitate high level of collaboration between Oxfam affiliates, countries, regions and ACE department on UN headquarter targeted advocacy to contribute to the overall campaigns priorities.

Manage the small team in NYC, and explore and deliver effective fundraising to expand the team.

•Alliances and partnerships:

Actively participate in NGO networks and advocacy alliances and serve as a point-person in coalitions as relevant. Support engagement and advocacy of partner and civil society activists in the UN headquarters.

•Spokesperson:

Act as a spokesperson for Oxfam in NY, speaking publicly at events and in media.

IN ADDITION:

•Exceptional influencing skills and demonstrable experience effectively representing issues and institutions before high level decision-makers.

•Ability to negotiate effectively and excel in informal leadership skills in a multi-stakeholder, network environment and alliances.

•Demonstrable organisational and problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects to deadlines.

•Experience working with partners and civil society actors and supporting their advocacy efforts and initiatives.

•Excellent interpersonal skills with outstanding ability to liaise and build relationships with a wide range of diverse people, both internally and externally and at many levels, with credibility, tact and diplomacy.

•Demonstrable commitment to anti-racism, gender equity, women’s rights, and LGBTQIA rights.

•Experience in working with multi-cultural senior staff and teams across borders.

•High level of verbal and written English communication skills; French, Spanish and / or Arabic communication skills would be an advantage.


DESIRABLE:

•Experience of working across geographic boundaries.

•Experience of influencing UN systems to achieve change.

•Understanding of the complications and risk of humanitarian and conflict affected contexts.

•Lived experiences with intersecting systems of oppression, with knowledge and experience of how

power and privilege play out in the countries we work with
