Blue School is an independent PK-8 school located in the lower Manhattan serving approximately 300 students. Blue School’s mission statement defines creative thinking, academic mastery and self and social intelligence as its core values. In the fall of 2018, Blue School will expand their campus with a second building. Blue School is seeking an energetic and collaborative individual to connect our community through consistent, engaging communication and to inspire an environment of gratitude and giving to meet Blue School’s development goals. This individual would be integral in supporting the internal and external communication for Blue School and raising funds through annual campaigns, benefits and other fundraising.


The primary responsibilities of this position include the following:

 Development Planning and Execution

  • Work with Advancement Director and Development Committee to create strategic plan to meet fundraising goals
  • Execute plans for Annual Fund, Spring Benefit, and any fundraising campaigns
  • Positive, professional working relationships with parents -- including parents who are active in school events, and those who are not
  • Manage events as needed, from small events such as Grandfriends Gathering to large events such as Spring Benefit
  • Assist with development of new programs such as a Blue Note speaker series and a new Alumni group
  • Researching foundation opportunities and assisting with drafting and submitting proposals
  • Assisting in the development and coordination of research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors to the school

Marketing and Communications Planning and Execution

  • Work with the Director of Advancement to create and execute annual Marketing and Communication strategy (with an emphasis on growing Admissions and advancing the overall brand of the school)
  • Create and maintain a holistic marketing and communications plan and communications calendar to ensure cohesive messaging and an appropriate timeline. Oversee social media strategy and maintain Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter accounts
  • Produce and distribute a weekly digital newsletter, gathering relevant information from leadership and community members
  • Maintain and oversee website updates and development, including any timely updates
  • Act as primary point of contact for vendors, service ads in accordance to deadlines; track success of campaigns
  • Produce materials for the school such as ads, flyers, web pages, Eventbrite invites using graphic design programs
  • Oversee and coordinate work with outside graphic designer as necessary

Education, skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience in independent schools and development experience is required
  • Excellent writer and a passion for communication -- digital media and marketing; ability to communicate with many constituencies
  • Strategic, flexible and creative thinking; strong attention to detail
  • Problem‐solving, and action orientation
  • Strong technology and design skills including Word, Outlook, Excel, Photoshop; Squarespace, Mailchimp and social media proficiency are a plus
  • Friendly and welcoming
