Description

We have an opening for our Middle School Language Arts classroom teacher/fellow at Colegio Americano del Sure (CAS). All candidates must be high-proficiency, certified English speakers for this classroom position. Our school year runs from January 4th through November 4th, 2024. (Though our school year is already underway, we are hoping to find interested professionals to start in the middle of the year.)

WE ARE ALSO OPEN TO ANYONE DESIRING TO JOIN US IN OUR SECOND SEMESTER WHICH BEGINS IN JUNE!

  • We are a NEASC-accredited Nursery-12th-grade school in Santa Lucia, Cotzumaguapa, Guatemala. We promote a bilingual, bi-cultural learning environment. We are one of two laboratory schools in Guatemala and have the freedom to utilize cutting-edge learning strategies that we share with local community schools.
  • New ideas and techniques are welcomed. Teachers can use their creativity to adapt the curriculum to their style and be innovative with their teaching. Making mistakes is part of our learning environment. We are all learning daily and learn from our mistakes and those of our peers.
  • We are searching for professionals who have had some teaching experience and who are passionate about nurturing children. While in Guatemala, teachers have the opportunity to improve their Spanish skills or learn Spanish, as well as be exposed to a rich Mayan culture and traditions.
  • Our learning environment includes a fresh and open environment, surrounded by beautiful trees and flowers. Students have the advantage of nature and the outdoors at their classroom doorsteps! (Classes are frequently held outdoors.)
  • The technology department is invested in creating a high-tech school environment. We have overhead projectors in each classroom as well as wi-fi across campus. There are two mobile computer and IPAD units for Early Childhood and Primary levels. Middle and High schools are involved with the one-to-one program and also have the use of one lab with IMACS and one lab for using personal pads or computers.
  • We have embarked on integrating technology within the academic classes and strive to improve in this area. Tech support is school-wide and you can improve your tech skills by being mentored by one of our tech specialists any time there is a need. We have a 3-D printer which helps to enhance our teaching strategies. The tech team also manages our fully equipped radio station which functions as a school-wide media outlet.
  • We are very committed to community outreach and are involved with community public schools to provide academic support. Our 11th grade students provide a weekly English class for these schools which enables both groups of students to learn from each other.

Qualifications for our Middle School Language Arts position and involvement with school-related activities are the following:

  • a minimum of 1 or 2 years of classroom experience and proven skills in leadership, group facilitation, organization, writing, listening, and communication.
  • ability to work independently.
  • excellent communication skills.
  • a passion for student achievement, the conviction that all students will learn, and a high drive to meet the needs of every student.
  • an intimate understanding of U.S. education.
  • be a strong advocate for students and teachers.
  • ability to differentiate curriculum and instruction for diverse ability learners.
  • current in educational research through online research and literature.
  • support the use of a comprehensive assessment system to inform instruction and enrichment opportunities for students.
  • think outside of the box when planning lessons.
  • flexibility, to volunteer if needed, to sponsor a school-related activity.
  • teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Language Arts.
  • be flexible to take on responsibilities that are not included in the actual job description when necessary. (Common throughout international schools.).
  • have your personal computer
