$29,400 - $33,750VISTA members are awarded an allowance of $2,050 gross plus a housing stipend of $250.00 per month. They get an education award of $6,195 or cash stipend of $1,800 at completion of service. Current student loan deferment or loan forbearance applied.

Community Engagement & Fundraising VISTA will be a key player in the organization’s communications and fundraising plan – helping to secure key resources, communicating broadly about the importance of public education, and disseminating key information to public school families. 

The VISTA will help diversify funding sources for the organization, using research and communication skills to support the Development Manager and maximize community fundraising.  They will learn about all aspects of fundraising including grant writing, corporate solicitation, fee-for-service models, major donor cultivation, and grassroots appeals. 

The VISTA will strengthen engagement with our city-wide community of partners, supporters and families through various social media channels including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and through email communication. The VISTA will also coordinate and send our bi-weekly newsletter. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about public education, supporting a diversity of families, enjoys writing and looking to learn from the small but mighty PPS-SF team.  The VISTA will be pivotal to increasing our digital reach by improving the consistency and quality of our social media messaging to our diverse audience of volunteers, donors, parents, and partners.

Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco's services are city-wide. The Community Engagement & Fundraising VISTA must:

  • be committed to supporting families, especially those who are low income and/or recently immigrated
  • be able to work independently, while embodying the mission of PPS-SF to serve families across San Francisco.
  • possess an exceptionally high level of personal responsibility.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Fundraising:

  • Researching individual, foundation & corporate opportunities to identify new sources of funding.
  • Developing strategies for writing successful fundraising proposals and sponsorship appeals.
  • Supporting and delivering successful annual fund drives and other annual fundraising activities.
  • Researching and developing opportunities for in-kind donations to support organizational and program goals. Create materials to support this.
  • Publicizing volunteer opportunities and conducting outreach to corporate and community supporters to engage and recruit volunteers. 
  • Training volunteers in how to support PPS-SF and tracking volunteer engagement in activities that help PPS-SF raise money.

Communications & Engagement:

  • Using social media to engage audiences with participation and fundraising campaigns that tell the PPS-SF story and demonstrate our impact
  • Working with Communications Team to create and manage editorial calendar for social media campaigns/activities 
  • Conceiving, writing and creating images for social media posts as part of the management of PPS-SF social media presence.
  • Previewing and reporting at Board of Education meetings and engage supporters on relevant topics.
  • Share information about Board meeting topics and highlight decisions that might affect parents & families. 
  • Preparing monthly newsletter using MailChimp, gathering items from staff members and the community

Reporting, and evaluation:

  • Completing necessary reporting on a timely basis 
  • Keeping accurate and consistent records of activities on Salesforce.
  • Assist Fundraising manager in monitoring impact of activities by using data driven evaluation.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of one year’s experience coordinating programs and/or serving families
  • Valid driver’s license; clean driving record.
  • Proven ability to independently problem solve.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to navigate San Francisco’s diverse populations.
  • Strong writing skills
  • Advanced proficiency or an ability to learn skills in Google Suite (Google Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides), Zoom, MailChimp Salesforce, social media including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Working knowledge and experience of San Francisco Unified School District 
  • Experience working in a diverse, mission-driven workplace.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in a language other than English

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to use personal cell phone for work (monthly stipend and google number provided).
