Case Analyst/Investigator (Los Angeles County)


The Housing Rights Center ("HRC") is seeking a Case Analyst/Investigator. HRC’s mission is to actively support and promote fair housing through education and advocacy, to the end that all persons have the opportunity to secure the housing they desire and can afford, without discrimination based on their race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, familial status, marital status, disability, ancestry, age, source of income, immigration status or other characteristics protected by law. HRC serves L.A. City, L.A. County, and parts of Ventura County. This position is primarily located in the main office in Los Angeles. HRC has a full-time staff of 25 and offers the following services: (1) Housing Discrimination Complaint Investigation, (2) Legal Services, (3) Outreach and Education, and

(4) Landlord/Tenant Counseling.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Work closely with staff to establish an investigation plan for discrimination complaints. Coordinate the analysis and investigation of housing discrimination complaints which includes:

o  Coordinating and analyzing tests and surveys

o  Taking witness statements

o  Compiling accurate and complete case files, and

o  Counseling clients throughout the complaint process.

·        Coordinate the resolution of discrimination complaints, through conciliation and litigation support.

·        Assist Director of Investigations with tester recruitment and training.

·        Responsible for compliance with contractual requirements and goals.

·        Conduct research

·        Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned which may include archiving files

·        Preparation of correspondence.


QUALIFICATIONS:

·        A demonstrated sincere interest in civil rights and social justice issues.

·        Strong knowledge of landlord/tenant and fair housing laws is a plus.

·        Investigation, legal research and complex analytical skills are a plus.

·        Excellent time management skills and strong written and verbal communication skills.

·        Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

·        Superior attention to detail and accuracy.

·        Must be well organized, be able to meet multiple deadlines and be a strong team member.

·        Spanish, Korean or Mandarin speaking skills are a plus

·        Min. of Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent


BENEFITS: Salary range $36,000 - 41,000 DOE. HRC offers an excellent benefits package including a 403(b) retirement plan with employer contribution.
