PART-TIME: 20-24 hours, with the potential to advance to full-time

Reports to: President and Board of Trustees 

Location: New York - NYC/Long Island

Children and Screens: Institute of Digital Media and Child Development is a 501(c)(3) organization that advances interdisciplinary research, informs and educates the public, advocates for sound public policy for child health and wellness, and enhances human capital in the field of digital media and child development. 

Children and Screens is looking for its first Development Director. The individual will be charged with advancing the Institute’s mission by increasing the level of involvement and philanthropic commitment from Foundations, individuals, and Government agencies. This position will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting significant philanthropic gifts, and stewarding donors. Under the President’s direction, the Development Director is responsible for performing various fundraising and development activities. He or she will have advanced experience with fundraising and development in a nonprofit setting, an outgoing and friendly personality, demonstrated professionalism and tact in communications, strong organizational and time management skills, acute attention to detail, and the ability to work well within a team as well as individually. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop a 2-year fundraising plan with specific strategies, benchmarks, and targets 
  • Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects
  • Develop strong Foundation relationships 
  • Implement the development plan
  • Research and prepare Institute submissions for national rating systems such as GuideStar and Charity Navigator 
  • Identify prospective donors and develop strategies to cultivate those relationships
  • Develop and implement a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors and acknowledging donors through public and private recognition
  • Research strategic corporate funding partners 
  • Maintain ongoing communications with all donors 
  • Research, write and apply for grants at the federal and state levels 
  • Ensure timely and accurate report deliverables to funders and the Board of Trustees 
  • Plan fundraising and friend-raising events 
  • Collaborate with staff on fundraising and awareness events 
  • Update print marketing materials related to fundraising in collaboration with our communications team
  • Perform non-routine tasks requiring strong judgment and initiative 
  • Collaborate with the President on fundraising outreach
  • Incorporate fundraising throughout all Institute programs

Qualifications   

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree 
  • 6+ years fundraising experience
  • Experience with nonprofit fundraising is required 
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with Foundations 
  • Grant writing and management experience
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills 
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of individuals at all organizational levels 
  • Understanding of, enthusiasm for, and commitment to Children and Screens’ mission 
  • As a small organization operating in a very dynamic environment, a significant amount of flexibility and teamwork is required. Employees are expected to work collaboratively to ensure Children and Screens’ success
