About VPAP:

Since 1997, the nonprofit Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP) has connected Virginians to political data in easily understood ways. Our website and data visualizations provide insights into campaign donations, the legislative process, , election results and more. We also produce VaNews, a free daily news aggregation service with 12,000 subscribers.

VPAP’s nonpartisan approach has won the trust and support of legislators, business leaders and individuals from across the political spectrum.

Our six-member staff operates from a loft office space in historic Shockoe Slip in downtown Richmond, a few blocks from the State Capitol.

About the Position:

The Marketing Director is a full-time, on-site position that reports to the Executive Director.


  • Design and promote visuals that translate complex data into easily digestible narratives
  • Develop and implement promotion strategies for social media and email. Manage daily and weekly outreach to various audiences.
  • Assist in designing new or updated web pages.
  • Manage the design and production of all promotional materials (including annual reports, event signage and invitations).
  • Track, analyze, and report on internal marketing metrics for the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  • Develop an annual marketing plan and manage the marketing budget.



  •  Bachelor’s degree, Associates degree or equivalent in marketing, advertising or related field.
  •  Three years of experience in marketing, advertising, public relations, web design or related field.
  •  High level understanding of marketing, communications and design best-practices.
  •  Advanced skill in Google Analytics and Facebook/Twitter Ad Manager.
  •  Intermediate skill in Adobe CC (Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere), MailChimp, Salesforce or similar technologies. 
  •  Advanced skill in Google Analytics and Facebook/Twitter Ad Manager.
  •  Familiarity with Adobe Premiere or similar video editing tool.
  •  Ability to write clear, snappy social media copy.
  •  Experience leading or participating in event planning.
  •  Understanding of or experience in Virginia politics a plus
