Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA), strives to promote responsible seafood production through education, advocacy and demonstration.

GAA’s Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification is the world’s most trusted, comprehensive and proven third-party aquaculture certification program. Through the BAP certification program, we have improved the environmental, social and economic performance of the aquaculture supply chain and grown the global supply of responsibly farmed seafood.

Our BAP Operations team works closely with Certification Bodies throughout the world in support of audits intended to ensure BAP standards are maintained and adhered to. In 2021, we are launching new standards pertaining to responsible practices in wild caught seafood. 

GAA’s Program Integrity is seeking highly motivated Specialists to work with our dynamic and expert team. Candidates should have 5 or more years’ working experience in one or both of the following categories:

           1) Food Quality and Safety in Processing

           2) Commercial Fishery Supply Chain and Employee Safety

Reporting directly to the Program Integrity Manager, Specialists are responsible for managing all routine operations underpinning the integrity of GAA certification programs and deliver new projects and solutions to enhance the integrity of the Organization.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Communicate with certification bodies, facilities, and BAP staff regarding program integrity compliance issues and sanctions.
  • Review non-conformities and other summary statistics from audit reports.
  • Conduct performance monitoring of auditors and certification bodies.
  • Conduct and coordinate on-site and desk-top integrity audits.
  • Select, direct, or train others to assist in Program Integrity projects.
  • Assist auditor training.
  • Monitor summary regulatory detention/refusal data for BAP Facilities.
  • Review facility compliance issues.
  • Assist in the review of new standards as needed, and in the development and updating of interpretation guidelines to standards, to ensure auditability.
  • Maintain systematic record keeping
  • Maintain compliance with external benchmarks including GFSI, GSSI and GSCP.
  • Develop, update and control Program Integrity policy and procedural documents.
  • Provide reports and updates to the Program Integrity Team and GSA Management.
  • Develop and manage new projects designed to strengthen and improve function, effectiveness and oversight of Program Integrity within GSA and BAP.

Other requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aquaculture, Marine Biology, Food Science, or Fisheries
  • Five to ten years related experience in the seafood, auditing, certification or seafood arenas
  • Food safety and/or fisheries expertise/experience and qualifications are a definite advantage.

Specialized Experience, Certificates and Licenses highly desired:

  • Working experience relating directly to eco-certification, social accountability, and/or fishery standards.
  • ISO 9001, 17065, 19011, 17025, 26000
  • GFSI, GSSI, GSCP, SA 8000
  • BRC, SQF, MSC, ASC, Global GAP
