The Violence Intervention Program, Inc. (VIP) partners with Latinx communities and all communities of color to end gender-based violence. Created as a grassroots response to intimate partner violence and sexual assault, VIP has always centered survivors in its leadership and has worked to create a community of staff that reflects the rich national, ethnic and racial diversity of the communities it serves. VIP operates four non-residential social service programs, two residential shelter and housing programs, a 24/7 hotline, and a robust communications and outreach department.

The Economic Justice & Survival Program (EJSP) assists participants in strengthening their economic well-being and achieving long-term economic security. EJSP specializes in promoting economic security among people who are not part of the traditional work forces and who are survivors of intimate partner and./or sexual violence. EJSP provides participants with educational and economic opportunities to break cycles of violence and poverty regardless of immigration status or language capacity.

The Economic Justice Advocate provides trauma-informed supportive services, including: survivor-centered financial planning and education, educational/vocational workshops, job application assistance, and leadership and business development, and opportunities for micro-enterprise. The Economic Justice Advocate will work collaboratively with all VIP staff to effectively partner with survivors seeking to increase economic security. The ideal candidate brings a strong analysis about intersectional experiences of oppression and violence and a practice of deep cultural humility. They are compassionate, enthusiastic and committed to social justice for marginalized communities.

Job Duties:

Ø Support the development and implementation of projects, services and direct actions that increase economic security for survivors of intimate partner and sexual violence.

Ø Assess educational/vocational goals for all participants and assist to achieve those goals.

Ø Make referrals to all appropriate services not already provided by the program.











Ø Stay abreast of changes in the area of entitlements and benefit resources and systems.

Ø Compile and submit statistical data required for reports due monthly, quarterly and annually.

Ø Attend and participate in regularly scheduled agency and program meetings including supervision sessions, case conferences, agency-wide staff meetings, development meetings, and others, as needed.

Ø Represent VIP at coalitions, task forces, etc., and identify and maintain linkages with partner organizations.

Ø Perform other tasks as required, including any related supervisory and administrative duties, as needed

 

Data Collection & Entry:

Ø Accurately record all required information in agency database.

Ø Collect and analyze data to enhance service delivery for the purpose of achieving outcomes

Ø Make recommendations for improvement or enhancement to data processes to ensure standards in data entry, collection, and retrieval are achieved 

 

Requirements:

Ø A bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, or equivalence in years of experience.

Ø Fully Bilingual Required (English/Spanish – verbal and written).

Ø Two (2) years career development & financial literacy experience including providing vocational counseling, career development and educational support services.

Ø Experience providing instruction to people with little to no work experience and minimal educational background.

Ø Must be knowledgeable in working with diverse communities, particularly Latinx, people of color, and low- income populations, and must deliver services with cultural humility.

Ø Must be able to exercise good judgement and sensitivity, at all times.

Ø Must be passionate about intersectional social justice issues impacting survivors of trauma.

Ø Excellent writing, documenting, and communication skills, including public speaking skills.

Ø Flexible with changing policies and programmatic or funding requirements.

Ø Must have the ability to operate office equipment such as computers, copy machine, fax machine, phone systems, etc. with strong internet and software skills; including Microsoft Office and client database. 

Ø Must have the ability to lift at least (30 lbs.) and travel via public transportation (bus, train, etc.)

Ø Must have a strong sense of teamwork and commitment to resolving conflicts for positive outcomes.

Ø Sense of humor a huge plus.
