Founded in 1992, After-School All-Stars is a national non-profit organization which provides free, daily afterschool programs to nearly 75,000 children in need on over 350 school sites in 19 chapters across the U.S. Our goals for our All Stars are the same we have for our own children: to be healthy and active, to graduate high school and go on to college, to find a job that they love and to give back to their communities. We achieve this by identifying and fueling our students' individual passions, tying their interests to tailored academic support, enrichment and health and fitness programming. After-School All-Stars gives its students a safe-haven during the hours of 3pm-6pm—the time of day when youth violence, drug use and other risky behaviors are most likely to occur. By creating caring youth adult relationships and incorporating service learning into all that we do, we help our All-Stars gain the confidence, skills and role models they need to become leaders in their community.
A Unique Opportunity
The Government Grants Writer will support our after-school programs across the country by helping our chapters secure and renew government funding from federal, state, and local sources. The Government Grants Writer will work with the Development Operations Manager and the VPs of Development. This position will either report to the Vice President of Development or the Director of Development, depending on the location.
• Write government grants and support government funding application processes for ASAS chapters across the country
• Identify and track potential government funding sources, including federal, state, and local opportunities
• Partner with advocacy leadership at ASAS to maximize funding opportunities within state and local budgets
• Use data systems effectively to track grant proposal and reporting requirements, and partner with finance team to manage reimbursable grants process
• Identify opportunities for ASAS leadership to advocate for after-school funding needs
• Partner with the program team to help ASAS youth develop as engaged citizens

The ideal candidate will be extremely organized and detailed-oriented with strong analytical and communication skills. Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing position demands are key. Team building and a collaborative working style are important attributes, in addition to:
• 3-10 years of government grant writing experience
• Comfortable with research, writing, and public speaking
• Comfort with a multi-faceted role with interest in government affairs, advocacy, and being external-facing in their role
• Collaborative and detail-oriented with the ability to lead and to be of service to national and chapter leadership
• Resourceful with the ability to quickly grasp and synthesize our programs with a deep interest in our mission
• Highly customer service-oriented
• An undergraduate degree is required, graduate degree preferred
