A competitive stipend based on experience will be paid to the fellow for the six (6) month term with potential for renewal and/or advancement.

The Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) is in the process of recruiting a fellow for the Contracts Unit portfolio, responsible for project assistance, research, correspondence, and office administrative duties.

About BCIU

BCIU has pursued its mission set forth by President Eisenhower by (1) training thousands of U.S. Ambassadors to promote American business around the world; (2) hosting foreign leaders (e.g. Presidents, Finance Ministers, etc.) with U.S. prospective investors to promote opportunities in their countries; and (3) advising executives and government officials on facilitating trade and investment.  

BCIU is fully integrated into the business and diplomatic circles in New York and Washington. BCIU also delivers meetings, events and activities throughout the U.S. and in cities around the world and is becoming an increasingly global organization. BCIU is a pragmatic, high-touch institution that provides tangible results to business executives and government officials at the highest levels, as well as specifically tailored services to both sectors upon request.

BCIU recruits only highly ethical, customer-oriented professionals who have exceptional project management experience and communications skills, intercultural sensitivity, business experience, and success in working in small, high-pressure teams facing inflexible deadlines. 

Position requires:

  • Strong writing skills and attention to detail (memos, letters, proposals, etc.)
  • Market and web/database research capabilities on a variety of areas (countries, regions, global organizations, sectors, etc.)
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) skillset executed in a fast-paced environment
  • Strict attention to detail and deadlines, outstanding organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task while documenting progress
  • Interest and background in international relations, U.S. inter-agency knowledge, foreign affairs and U.S. commercial business
  • Active and enthusiastic team-based mentality, high energy and quick learning skills 
  • Bachelor’s degree in international relations, business, or related subjects

Position responsibilities to include:

  • Research on a variety of topic areas from regional and sector based to be used for program development, political climate, global trade and energy, infrastructure opportunities, international organizations, global conference schedules, tracking Congressional confirmations and other relevant topics areas needed.
  • Fellow will be asked to identify key business sectors of interests as well as those companies active and/or interested in various foreign markets based on original research
  • Maintain and grow outreach lists based on country and sector priorities
  • Attending various meetings around New York and providing summaries on the topic
  • Office Administrative tasks to include tracking BCIU member inquiries, responses, and RSVP’s to various events around the world, generating reports, editing documents for final copy.
