SaveNature.Org is committed to recruiting, developing and retaining excellent teachers. This position will report to the program manager. The Insect Discovery Lab and the Nature Academy is a program of SaveNature.Org and is designed to spark the curiosity of children by providing hands-on experiments and projects to teach science concepts, create empathy and make a connection to the natural world. Our activities promote knowledge and stewardship, engaging youth to collaborate and share their ideas to benefit the health of their surrounding environment. Responsibilities of Education Specialist (part-time) Include but Are Not Limited to: * Create a positive, team-oriented and engaging learning environment that excites and invests students. * Motivate students to make observations, collect information, draw conclusions and develop problem-solving skills. * Build classroom community by investing teachers and families in children's academic success and development. * Be the key classroom facilitator of learning, be the seeker of resources and the theory builder. * Create a rich variety of assessments for students to "show what they know". Skills and Characteristics * Strong inquiry-based instructional and classroom management skills. * High level of personal organization and planning. * Team player: maturity, humility, strong work ethic, follow-through, sense of humor, willingness to respond positively to feedback and a "roll-up-my-sleeves" attitude. * Strong belief in SaveNature.Org's mission and the Insect Discovery Lab and Nature Academy educational program. Educational Background and Work Experience * One year of hands-on, inquiry based teaching experience highly preferred with a focus on elementary science concepts, with a focus on biological diversity. * Bachelor's degree in Science, preferably in natural sciences, environmental and/or biological conservation. Capable of being trained to handle live program animals. Strong oral and written communication skills required with an ability to work well with staff, volunteers and teachers. Valid CA drivers license with proven safe driving record. Travel around the Bay Area required, must have vehicle for this position, and, MUST be available to work on weekends.Please send resumé and three professional references to Norman Gershenz.
