The Episcopal Diocese of Long Island is seeking an experienced, energetic, self-motivated Director of Finance to oversee the financial wellbeing of this multicultural, complex and dynamic community of faith that extends from Brooklyn Heights to Montauk, including Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The Bishop Diocesan is the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese. In addition to its 132 local congregations, The Episcopal Diocese of Long Island is engaged in numerous other missionary endeavors including, Episcopal Health Services and St. John’s Episcopal Hospital (both of which entities have and employ separate financial staffs and chief financial officers), Camp DeWolfe, Episcopal Ministries of Long Island, the George Mercer School of Theology and the Trustees of the Estate Belonging the Diocese of Long Island. The Bishop Diocesan serves as President of each of these boards. Our offices are location in the affluent community of Garden City in Nassau County on the picturesque 23-acre campus of the Cathedral of the Incarnation.
The Director of Finance serves a key role in this complex system by creating, maintaining and reporting on all non-health services, diocesan financial records and reports. The Director of Finance is also responsible, with Diocesan Council and the Bishop, for the preparation, maintenance, monitoring and execution of the Diocesan budget. In order to achieve these goals, the Director of Finance must implement and observe best practices in accounting and organizational management and create and supervise an efficient and productive office workflow. The Director of Finance must be able to work collaboratively with Sr. level and other administrative staff members and independently on assignments that are complex in nature and where considerable judgment and initiative are required.
The Director of Finance will be responsible for the oversight, management and leadership in the areas of finance, internal control, audit coordination, banking and asset management for the Diocese.
