POSITION SUMMARY

The Community Outreach & Family Engagement Coordinator is to be the primary team member to help Casita expand and deepen our relationships with parents, caregivers, local organizations, and residents of the surrounding community.  The coordinator will strengthen, grow and maintain the bridge between Casita, families of program participants and the community in the efforts of promoting academic success, building Casita Maria’s capacity for art and education programs, and deepening our connections to our community. This position will help lead Casita Maria to the next stage in its development of increased audiences, outreach and community engagement.

Reporting to the Deputy Director, and in collaboration with a team of education and arts professionals, the Coordinator will work with Casita Maria staff for outreach to families, parents/guardians, school partners, and the community at large in order to develop long-term relationships and participation in Casita’s academic and creative arts programs.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop improved practices for welcoming, connecting and engaging the community and parents/caregivers. 
  • Orient families of participants to program components, requirements, and opportunities for engagement.
  • Develop and implement workshops for families and the larger community to increase adult education related to child development, social-emotional learning, and overall health and wellness. 
  • Organize and coordinate the Parent Advisory Committee to deepen relationships with existing families and enhance current programming for participants.
  • Develop strategies to ensure families are able to monitor their childrens’ progress within the program and celebrate their accomplishments.
  • Contribute to and distribute programmatic marketing materials to engage local community and families with events, such as monthly newsletters and social media posts.
  • Work closely with all afterschool education, arts and development staff to research and apply new strategies that encourage more active participation in Casita’s programs. 
  • Work closely with all afterschool education, arts and development staff to develop creative partnerships that will expand the way audiences participate in arts and education events/programs/exhibitions. 
  • Work closely with all afterschool education and arts staff to monitor student progress, navigate challenges, and communicate with families as needed.
  • Develop relationships with local families, youth, residents, community organizations and businesses in order to expand audiences and increase participation in Casita’s arts programming.
  • Identify and coordinate a diverse group of community members to serve as Casita’s cultural ambassadors.
  • Represent Casita Maria in the community at meetings, events, and online, with a goal to inspire increased active participation in Casita programs. 
  • Assess visitor/audience experience at Casita, and track Casita’s relationships with targeted community groups/institutions. 
  • Design and develop assessment tools, collect data and report on all engagement activities.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • A track record in facilitating non-profit partnerships.
  • At least 2-3 years’ experience in community engagement programs and/or community organizing and cultural event outreach.
  • Must be bilingual, fluent in writing and speaking – Spanish / English.
  • Proficiency in navigating social media platforms   
  • Strong knowledge of and passion for arts education, contemporary art and community-based arts practice, especially in the Bronx region.  
  • Experience working with and supporting local residents in a community-based setting.
  • Excellent people, management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work during select arts programming weekends and for all evening arts events presented throughout the year.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Exceptional writing and editorial skills required; clear verbal communication skills required.
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented, ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.  
  • Ability to work collaboratively, quickly and under pressure—with a sense of humor.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, attend meetings and prioritize tasks.
  • Integrity, professional discretion, and professionalism. 
  • Strong computer skills: knowledge of Google Drive suite and other standard business technology is required.
  • Bilingual – Spanish/English a plus.
