Manager, Outreach

Summary:      Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses throughout LA County. This position is responsible for: managing referrals and medical eligibility paperwork and introducing Make-A-Wish in order to be able to grant each child’s wish. Incumbents may be required to perform other job-related tasks in addition to those specifically presented in this description.

Reports to: Director, Mission Delivery


·        Act as Make-A-Wish liaison with local medical community

·        Build and steward relationships with referral sources and other non-profits serving children with critical illnesses

·        Speak confidently on medical conditions and the Make-A-Wish process

·        Develop and execute medical outreach plan

·        Develop and implement creative methods for reaching potential wish families

·        Set and work within established goals for referral numbers

·        Develop and execute ongoing referral source recognition

·        Manage referral intake, eligibility, and data management related to new referrals

·        Contact wish families for welcome calls. Collect and record information accurately in database

·        Update, assemble and send Welcome Packets

·        Work with Medical Advisors and the National Medical Team to clarify eligibility as necessary

·        Keep abreast of National policies, guidelines and resources related to eligibility and medical outreach efforts

·        Schedule wish families for Wish Discovery activities, as needed

·        Maintain positive working relationships with staff, volunteers, doctors, social workers, wish families, and donors

·        Duties as assigned



·        BA/BS or equivalent combination of education and work experience

·        Ability to speak, read, and write fluently in English and Spanish

·        Coordinate and conduct presentations in small and large group settings

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate possesses a passionate commitment to our mission and would have:

·        2-3 years’ experience in pediatric clinical or hospital setting preferred

·        Certification in Child Life (CL, CCLS) preferred

·        Ability to speak, read, and write fluently in English and Spanish

·        Able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively

·        Proven record of high-quality customer service

·        Ability to follow and share internal procedures and requirements

·        Excellent written, verbal, and communication skills

·        Detailed and well organized

·        Able to successfully work in a collaborative, team-oriented organization

·        Proficiency in Microsoft Office products

·        Phone experience required         

·        Data entry experience required  

Salary: $50,000-$53,000
