HOMEY STAFF ACCOUNTANT 

Position Title: HOMEY Staff Accountant

Reports To: Associate Executive Director 

Status:  Non-exempt, Full-time, 40 hours 

Schedule: Monday-Friday (10:00AM – 6:00PM) depending upon scheduling needs. Availability needed for occasional evening meetings

Salary:  Competitive salary (includes medical, vision, and dental benefits for employee and spouse or dependent) dependent on experience. 

 

Mission 

The mission of HOMEY is to transform the lives of high-risk youth and inspire them to not only choose a path of education, self-sufficiency and non-violence, but also strive towards physical, mental and emotional health. We do this through the youth development practices of skill building, relationship building, youth participation in decision-making, and community involvement. 

 

History and Constituents  

HOMEY is a grassroots organization that serves low-income Latino youth ages of 13 to 24 in the San Francisco Mission District. This group of young people includes those in who have experienced negative street associations, those formerly incarcerated, young people at risk of incarceration, and isolated and disenfranchised youth who are equally at risk of unhealthy behaviors like violence and criminal activity. HOMEY is constituency driven by former gang members and young leaders from the community who want to establish more effective methods of preventing youth violence and self-destruction. Since its inception in 1999, HOMEY youth have created publications, implemented educational programs, and hosted numerous events and resource fairs promoting health and well-being to their peers. Position Summary: 

Under the immediate supervision of the HOMEY Associate Director, this position will provide support to HOMEY’s administrative team. 

We are seeking a Staff Accountant who will be responsible for the preparation and execution of our organization’s day-to-day accounting needs. This role requires experience in accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll preparation and assists in general ledger reconciliations/ 

Principal Accountabilities

● Creates financial transactions and generates reports from that information

● Reconciles accounts to ensure accuracy

● Purchase supplies and equipment as authorized by management

● Monitor office supply levels and reorder as necessary

● Tag and monitor fixed assets

● Pay supplier invoices in a timely manner

● Take all reasonable discounts on supplier invoices

● Pay any debt as it comes due for payment

● Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants

● Bills reimbursable expenses to government agencies and ensure that receivables are collected promptly

● Collect sales taxes from customers and remit them to the government

● Record cash receipts and make bank deposits

● Conduct a monthly reconciliation of every bank account

● Conduct periodic reconciliations of all accounts to ensure their accuracy

● Issue managerial accounting statements and subsequent financial analysis

● Provide information to the external financial consultant who creates the company’s financial statements

● Providing information to external auditors and government organizations

● Assemble information for external auditors for the annual audit

● Assist in calculating and issuing financial analysis of the financial statements

● Maintain an orderly accounting filing system

● Maintain the chart of accounts

● Maintain the annual budget

● Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management

● Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements

● Process payroll in a timely manner

● Provide clerical and administrative support to management as requested

● Follow accounting policies and procedures


 Staff Accountant Skills and Qualifications:

• Licensure as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is strongly preferred

• Professional experience working with confidential and sensitive information

• Knowledge of state and federal tax form processes and how to accurately properly prepare forms for each

• Ability to prioritize daily tasks and meet timely obligations 

• Knowledge of accounting processes and advanced mathematical skills

• Experience consulting tax handbooks or other printed materials to determine the proper procedure for preparing challenging returns

• Skilled using various accounting software and experience in troubleshooting common accounting program problems

• Personal integrity when working with personal and sensitive financial information

• Professional experience in financial forecasting and risk analysis
