The Primary School is expanding the boundaries of traditional education. Our holistic model weaves together education, health, and family support services to ensure underserved children have the system of care they need to lead meaningful and emotionally, mentally, and physically healthy lives. The Primary School was founded in 2015, and we received seed funding by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, a major national philanthropy.
Our approach has three defining characteristics:
In 2016, we opened our flagship school in East Palo Alto, California, with our first class of four-year-olds. We have grown to serve nearly 300 children and their families via a 0-3 parent/child program, a preschool and elementary school.
Our ultimate goal is to create a game-changing system of care for children that can be replicated across the country. To that end, we are building a model that can be effectively implemented in diverse communities and sustained on public funding. In 2019, we plan to both expand our student and family population in East Palo Alto and pursue opening our next site in Hayward, California. It’s an exciting time to join the team!
At The Primary School we are committed to supporting all children in developing expressive, receptive, and social language. We are looking for someone to join our team who is excited to build a program that creatively serves all children in achieving goals around speech and language, and supports teachers and families in building environments where language is prioritized.
The Speech and Language Pathologist reports to the Special Education Manager and is responsible for delivering direct services to children with identified needs, collaborating with teachers and support staff on integrated support plans, and may serve as case manager for students with IEPs driven by speech and language needs. The SLP will provide small group and individual services both in the classroom and outside the classroom while also collaborating with teachers on in class supports.
In the 2020-2021 school year we will be expanding and strengthening The Primary School’s Special Education program, meaning that this role is an opportunity for someone looking to be engaged both in direct service and program design and innovation.
The Speech and Language Pathologist will be part of our Integrated Supports team, helping ensure that all children at The Primary School receive the support they need to be successful at school.
