About Project Sunshine

Project Sunshine is a New York City headquartered organization that addresses the psychosocial and developmental needs of pediatric patients and their families. We partner with over 425 medical facilities across the U.S. and in four international locations (Canada, China, Kenya and Israel). Before the pandemic, thousands of trained Project Sunshine volunteers delivered in-person play and activities to patients in hospitals facing any medical challenge. In 2019 Project Sunshine programs engaged over 200,000 patients and families. We have been committed to this mission because, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, play is one of the most effective methods of reducing stress in kids, allowing their bodies to heal. In response to the pandemic, when hospital-based volunteers were grounded, Project Sunshine quickly piloted and tested a new program: TelePlay. TelePlay is live, interactive activities and games led by trained volunteers over a HIPAA-compliant Zoom platform. Families with children in the hospital or recovering at home can easily and quickly sign up from a variety of free interactive games with other children.
