Project Manager Job Description

Location: Remote during COVID-19; or in Long Island City, Queens office.  (Travel may be expected when attending events on ABC’s behalf.)

Time Commitment: 35 hours / week (full-time)

Position Reports To: CEO

Organization History:

Arts Business Collaborative (ABC) is a 501(c)3 technical assistance and research organization committed to improving the quality of life of people of color through the arts and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math). Our programs focus on the underlying factors that affect quality of life for people of color: access to capital, access to networks, access to training, and entrepreneurship.

Our vision is to 1) create systems and pathways for BIPOC arts practitioners to remain economically viable, 2) facilitate BIPOC-supporting arts and cultural institutions’ and arts practitioners’ ability to initiate and respond to creative destruction with excellence, and 3) cultivate the arts as the universal gateway to political action and social change for BIPOC.

ABC accomplishes this through our Grassroots Action Project (GAP) with subsidized technical assistance and capacity building services and fiscal sponsorship; and scholarly research through our Rising Tides Research Institute.

While ABC’s budget has grown from less than $200k to over $10M in a matter of months (due to the growth of our sponsored projects and increased support of ABC through the Black Lives Matter movement), we are still a startup.

The Project Manager is a detail-oriented, timeline driven person who will be responsible for overseeing multiple projects to ensure all projects are successfully completed, meet business needs, and remain on time and within budget.  Additionally, this position will coordinate communication with team members and stakeholders, identify and resolve issues, and monitor milestones and resource allocations.  The Project Manager will also assist with communicating project results and help identify areas where processes, procedures or services could be improved.  The Project Manager will be reporting to the CEO, who will guide your work and professional development.

You’ll fit right in if you are:

  • Not boring. We’re proud to be different, and you should be too!
  • Self-managed and self-motivated. We encourage education and coaching as part of our culture of disciplined excellence, and we don’t have time to micro-manage. But we have all the time for questions and supportive camaraderie.
  • Passionate about and active in the promotion of the arts and economic and racial justice. Activists welcome!
  • Ready to rise to the occasion when needed. You do not have a job; you have responsibilities, and we value the difference.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and collaborative.
  • Not afraid to speak up and share your ideas. This does not mean you need to be an extrovert, just someone with a strong sense of self. This is crucial in a fast-paced startup environment!

LGBTQ+ Black, Indigenous, and Latinx people of color are strongly encouraged to apply!

Duties of the Project Manager include, but may not be limited to:

  • Successfully manage delivery of all project requirements
