Railroad Street Youth Project (RSYP) is a small, youth-founded youth organization dedicated to youth empowerment, in southern part of the beautiful Berkshires of western Massachusetts. AT RAILROAD STREET, YOUTH TAKE THE LEAD. They explore their full potential and become equipped to meet the challenging transition to adulthood. RSYP’s professional staff expertly pairs youth-generated ideas with community resources, empowering youth to create and oversee a wide range of innovative, life-changing projects. The position – The Director/Organizer Community Health Coalition is responsible for:

  • Building coalition and sustaining relationships with community partners, key stakeholders, and frontline communities to create and implement a strategic vision for youth community health/substance abuse prevention
  • Oversight and management of core coalition activities including, Kitchen Table Talk parent education series, community meetings and forums, leading the Coalition, youth, and community through assessment and strategic planning
  • Convening and facilitating coalition leadership, subcommittees and staff to impact community health  
  • Developing public health communications materials rooted in evidence based research, community values of youth empowerment and intergenerational communication

Core Qualifications – The Director/Organizer Community Health Coalition embodies RSYP’s mission in day-to-day interactions with the community partners and stakeholders, taking a collaborative approach to leadership, assessment and action plan implementation. This position requires a person to have following core competencies:

  • Strategic planning and grassroots community organizing skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to both write clearly and speak publicly
  • Evidenced passion for community health and asset/empowerment-based youth development and matching experience in the field of public health/community organizing
  • Strong skill sets in social justice and cultural competency literacies and experience working across social differences including age, race, socio-economic status, gender, sexuality and ability
  • Ability to build strong collaborative community relationships with individuals and organizations
  • Availability to work occasional nights & weekends
