Description

JustFix.nyc seeks a Program Director to take a leadership stake in our mission to provide tenants and organizers with new tools in fighting displacement in their neighborhoods.


The Program Director should possess an entrepreneurial spirit and a lifelong passion for tenants rights, particularly with working class communities and communities of color. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who contributes to our transformative vision of housing justice in New York City. They will engage with tenant leaders, fellow housing justice nonprofits, and other strategic partners in a collaborative and tenant-driven model.


Reporting directly to the Executive Director, you will work with a diverse and interdisciplinary team of colleagues and oversee our programs to ensure that thousands of working-class families across the city get the resources they need to fight back against predatory real estate interests.


Compensation is competitive and will include salary and full health/vision/dental insurance. Our dog-friendly (and people-friendly!) office is based in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn.


As the Program Director you will:


  • Drive program planning around our mission for housing justice
  • Have a leadership role in our tenant-driven model for developing technology services, in close collaboration with our Product Manager
  • Work alongside our Outreach Coordinator in aligning with housing justice coalitions and current organizing campaigns
  • Identify, develop and nurture strong relationships with neighborhood-based organizing groups, legal aid providers, and city council offices.
  • Represent JustFix.nyc at conferences, community events, and in the field.
  • Work with our staff and volunteers in facilitating workshops, engaging directly with tenants, and conducting trainings.

And have…


  • minimum 3-5 years experience working in housing justice or related social sector, either formally in a nonprofit or as an individual
  • teaching experience and ability to facilitate trainings/demos/workshops
  • tech-savviness (formal background not required) - particularly with Google Drive / Microsoft Office (docs, sheets, presentations, etc)
  • a proven track record in working as part of a collaborative, diverse team
  • fluency in a language other than English strongly preferred, especially Spanish, Haitian Kreyol, French, and/or Mandarin (preferred, but not required)
  • are from New York or feel a deep connection to the city and the people who live in it

JustFix.nyc is a Brooklyn-based 501(c)3 nonprofit that builds tools for tenants and advocates fighting displacement. Our technology enables tenants to take action on issues of apartment disrepair and landlord harassment as well as connect with community-based organizing and advocacy efforts.


We’re a team of 6 full-time staff supported by the Robin Hood Foundation, Open Society Foundations, New York Community Trust, and many others).
