Position Summary

The Director of Marketing is responsible for leading the planning and execution of NORD’s marketing strategy. The Director will work collaboratively with other departments to promote NORD’s programs and services and ensure NORD’s position as a thought leader in patient advocacy and the go-to source for information to the patient and medical community. This position is an excellent opportunity for an experienced marketing director to lead a small team that makes a big impact.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop, implement and evaluate marketing plans across NORD’s multiple audiences that support a unique, engaging and differentiating brand position


Oversee the NORD brand in all communications, including website, social media, electronic and print communications, NORD events and the annual report ensuring brand continuity and messaging consistency


Work collaboratively with Development to promote NORD events, including the Rare Diseases and Orphan Products Breakthrough Summit, Rare Impact Awards and Rare Disease Day


Lead NORD’s website strategy and ongoing maintenance to keep content fresh


Oversee NORD’s social media strategy to ensure it supports the organization’s strategy for driving engagement


Produce content that establishes NORD as a thought leader and extends its reach by driving familiarity of our mission


Leverage analytics and market research to drive insights and drive brand awareness


Evaluate strategies for new marketing and outreach opportunities and leverage existing and new relationships with corporate partners


Serve as a spokesperson for NORD and actively engage, cultivate and manage press relationships to achieve focus on NORD programs, special events and public announcements


Implement crisis communication plans to ensure NORD is prepared to respond to breaking news


Provide leadership and daily management of the marketing team, promoting a culture of high performance and commitment to quality


Performs other duties and functions as assigned


Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree required; concentration in marketing or communications preferred; Master’s degree preferred


At least 7 years of marketing experience, preferably in a non-profit organization


Familiarity with the healthcare sector, nonprofit and/or rare disease community is highly desirable


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


Excellent writing and editing skills are essential


Outstanding leadership and project management skills in progressively more senior marketing positions in healthcare, medical or scientific affairs or advertising agencies


Ability to articulate and implement a vision and strategy to drive branding efforts; knowledge of media analytics and ability to appropriately interpret market data


Experience developing communications, marketing and public relations strategies and implementation of plans


Demonstrated experience producing compelling web content and social media campaigns to advance brand awareness and engage key constituents


Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office, major social media channels, Google analytics and current Web platforms, including WordPress


Solid understanding of key marketing principles; awareness of current issues and trends in market space of rare diseases and healthcare industry


Displays professional can-do attitude with enthusiasm and upholds the mission and core values of the organization
