We are currently searching for an experienced Prevention and Outreach Director. This is a full-time exempt position, with a salary range of $79,000 to $89,000.

Summary

The Prevention and Outreach Director manages the day-to-day operations of the Prevention and Outreach Program, is the face of Safe Shores for the community, ensures the highest quality of violence prevention services for child victims, their siblings, their non-offending caregivers/family members, and community members/ professionals. The Director of Prevention and Outreach models the values and guide and advance the mission of the organization, particularly in all communications with volunteers, staff, multi-disciplinary team (MDT) members, donors, and other community members, thereby helping to foster a positive and productive working environment. This position requires mandatory reporting for child abuse and neglect under the District of Columbia Statute § 4-1321.02.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Provide leadership and supervision to Prevention and Outreach staff and Public Health Interns.
  • Participate in the recruitment, training, and management of the Authorized Facilitators speakers’ bureau.
  • Implement three (3) core prevention programs within the community (Stewards of Children®, Care for Kids, ACT Against Violence).
  • Manage community outreach efforts and messaging, program quality assurance and data collection.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation for after hours and weekend victim services support for forensic interviews.
  • Provide individual supervision for Prevention and Outreach staff and volunteers.
  • Conduct bi-annual and annual employee performance evaluations and reviews.
  • Develop and monitor yearly professional development plans with supervisees.
  • Develop, implement, and refine Prevention and Outreach work plans.
  • Maintain and assure quality and confidentiality of electronic and paper files, statistical tracking, and inventory.
  • Oversee the recruitment, screening, placement, orientation, and supervision of volunteers.
  • Identify prevention initiatives, establish short-and long-term goals for Prevention and Outreach Program, and serve as content expert for child maltreatment prevention initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other Safe Shores’ programs to identify and address the needs of clients and community members.
  • Strategically target community organizations with messaging about child sexual abuse prevention and the importance of prevention training, including advancing and/or refining Safe Shores’ community prevention initiative of reaching the tipping point (5% of DC adults) in Stewards of Children® trainings.
  • Respond to crisis situations with clients and disclosures of abuse from community members and identify and plan with staff regarding secondary trauma situations.
  • Participate in on-going training and professional development activities, including supervision with the Deputy Director.
  • Serve as a member of the organization’s Senior Management Team.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages all staff in the prevention and outreach program. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this program. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in public health, psychology, social work, or related field. 
  • At least five (5) full years of previous experience with abuse prevention, community level public health/social work prevention, social services, and/or victim advocacy. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally to a variety of individuals and groups.
  • Ability to work with caregivers/adults, children, and adolescents. 
  • Familiarity with and a disposition toward the MDT approach to the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with different theoretical and prevention approaches.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Superb interpersonal skills.
  • High level of cultural competence.
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to successfully pass Child Protection Registry clearance and criminal background check.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in a Children’s Advocacy Center setting, pediatric organization, or traumatic stress center. 
  • Oral and written Spanish language fluency.
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with criminal investigative, social services and legal systems in the District of Columbia. 
  • Professional relationships within the region, including community, organization, and university partnerships.

COMPUTER/TECHNOLOGY SKILLS                                                                                                                         

Must be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast-paced setting. Must have strong experience with computer technology and equipment and Microsoft Office 365, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to touch or feel a computer, keyboard, monitor, telephone, Smart Phone, and talk or hear when interacting with employees. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee may regularly lift and /or move 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
