The Development Director is responsible for raising funds and other kinds of donations for the organization by researching, developing and managing relationships with funders including Corporations, Foundations and Individuals.

Successful execution of the organizations strategic plan and the operation of the programs are contingent upon the growth and management of relationships with Corporate and Foundation Philanthropy Executives and high net worth individuals. Remain current on information regarding Students 2 Science including institutional history, current activities, and planned programs in order to understand funding needs.

Principal Activities and Responsibilities

  • Raise funds for our cause and regularly meet or surpass fundraising target
  • Identify and solicit high net worth, corporate and foundation philanthropy executives           
  • Research prospective donors to gain insight into needs, beliefs and donation habits to understand how to position our organization to them
  • Facilitate new donor cultivation, steward existing donors and initiate new fundraising opportunity relationships
  • Assist in brainstorming and creating new methods to raise funds for our organization
  • Leverage technology and social media where possible to improve fundraising activities
  • Assist in creating marketing materials, such as presentations, brochures and flyers, to be used for all fundraising activities 
  • Analyze the performance of fundraising activities for effectiveness
  • Use Salesforce to maintain complete and orderly records of leads, contacts, opportunities and regular donor communications
  • Collaborate with other organizations and groups within the community to build partnerships and enhance fundraising activities

Job Skills & Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3-5 years fundraising experience
  • Experience fundraising in the New Jersey area
  • Exemplary communication abilities and outgoing, yet poised personality
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Prior experience in grant writing and management
  • Experience working in Salesforce or other CRM application
  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail
  • Quick thinker and ability to make decisions under pressure
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage deadlines while delivering a high-quality product or service

Preferred:

  • Experience fundraising within the STEM industry
  • Experience with Wealth Engine and Foundation Directory

Physical Requirements:  A significant amount of time is spent sitting and standing. Good auditory and visual skills are required.
