The Organization

Education Reimagined is committed to the transformation of education in the US. We are guided by "A Transformational Vision for Education in the US." This vision lays out a future in which learners are no longer asked to adapt to a standardized, one-size-fits-all education system; rather, they are recognized and valued as full human beings and supported to be confident, proud learners, leaders, and contributors to their families, communities, and society. We call this future of education “learner-centered.”

Education Reimagined’s mission is to make learner-centered education available to every child in the country, inclusive of race, background, and circumstance. Our role is that of a connector, champion, and catalyst. We offer a transformational vision to galvanize the country around a new learner-centered future of education; and we partner with visionary leaders to imagine, invent, and bring to life the new systems and conditions necessary to enable a learner-centered, socially just future for education to spread and thrive. Learn more at www.education-reimagined.org.

The Education Reimagined staff is a lean, agile team of entrepreneurial individuals. We operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that is built on and prioritizes the cultivation of partnership and relationships with others. Team members must be independent workers who also highly value collaboration and the opportunity to work across functions.

The Position

We are seeking a Communications & Marketing Manager to join an experienced, dynamic communications team and make a decisive difference in our ability to build Education Reimagined’s reputation as a go-to source for those committed to education transformation. They will lead the execution of the organization’s publishing and social media strategies and develop and implement a marketing strategy for dramatically expanding our readership and participation in our growing set of fee-based offerings.

This person will be a top-notch communicator; a skilled, adaptable writer; and will take pride in owning a wide breadth of work centered on amplifying the leaders, work, stories, and ideas that are shaping the learner-centered education movement. This person will engage in their work, internally and externally, with curiosity, open-mindedness, sincerity, and a strong desire for equal parts collaboration and independence.

The Communications and Marketing Manager will ensure Education Reimagined’s publications and content are produced to the high standards expected by our growing readership, lead efforts to expand that readership, and build out the organization’s capacity to market its own offerings. This person will report to the Vice President of Communications and will be a pivotal member of the Communications team. Preference will be given to candidates who are based in or can relocate to the Washington, DC area, although living in DC is not a requirement of the job.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identify, source, and build a pipeline of stories and guest contributors for organizational publications; interview diverse leaders; and partner with authors to ensure their stories are powerfully conveyed. This includes conducting and shaping interviews into publishable articles, and providing support in story shaping and editing for guests ranging from seasoned writers to first-time authors.
  • Coordinate, edit, and produce the organization’s editorial and publishing calendars for its major publications, which currently include Education Reimagined’s mainstay publication Voyager (Weekly and Monthly issues) and its regular Sunday issues of In Addition
  • Write and edit long- and short-form articles, social media content, newsletter copy, and website content. This includes both authoring pieces with the individual’s byline and ghost writing for others on the team.
  • Develop and leverage the organization’s social media channels (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) to expand the organization’s reach and advance its message. This includes crafting content, managing regular postings, creating campaigns, and developing mechanisms to engage with and grow the audience.
  • Lead the development of a marketing strategy to expand the reach of organization’s in-house resources, reports, publications, and professional development offerings. This includes crafting copy for marketing materials, managing relevant paid advertising, and monitoring metrics for consistent improvement.
  • Manage the backend of Education Reimagined’s website (customized version of WordPress) and email services (Mailchimp). For the website, this includes auditing, inputting new content, deploying SEO best practices, updating plug-ins and old content (as needed), and identifying and partnering with relevant consultants to solve any technical problems. In the first year, this will include partnering with the communications team in the creation and launch of a new organizational website. For the email services, this includes coordinating and managing subscription lists and writing newsletter copy.
  • Produce regular communications data reports, including statistical analysis of the organization’s digital publications, website traffic, and social media and paid strategy performance.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of professional-level communications experience with preference given to those with experience in non-profit communications. We also invite those with transferable skills built in other sectors or experiences to apply.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills to drive the implementation and iteration of the editorial and publishing calendars; in practice, this includes, but is not limited to, effectively organizing publishing schedules, coordinating conversations and editing processes with authors (internal and external), generating ongoing social media engagement and unique social media campaigns, and manage upkeep of website and listservs.
  • Skilled editor and writer. This includes the ability to support others to tell their stories powerfully; to produce high-quality writing on a short turnaround; and utilize an organization’s voice.
  • Strong listening and interviewing skills. This includes the ability to mirror the voices of interviewees and guest authors; identify questions that will prompt reflective answers from interviewees and engage our readership; and approach every verbal and written conversation with an ear for understanding.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with coworkers and external authors and interviewees; willingness to ask for help and proactive in keeping all relevant parties informed about a project’s status.
  • Creative, self-directed, and flexible to the demands of an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, and responsive environment. Excited about the chance to work with a close-knit team and ready to provide support across a range of team functions, as needed, to respond to the needs of our communities and supporters.
  • Demonstrated experience with website upkeep and maintenance (Wordpress experience strongly preferred), email marketing services (Mailchimp experience strongly preferred), and coding (HTML and CSS, a plus).
  • Passionate about Education Reimagined’s mission and eager to learn and delve deeply into what learner-centered education is and what it makes possible.
