 About Us: The Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking (CAST) is a Los Angeles based nonprofit organization that is working to put an end to modern slavery and human trafficking through comprehensive, lifesaving services to survivors and a platform to advocate for groundbreaking policies and legislation. Over the past two decades, CAST has supported thousands of survivors through every phase of their journey to freedom from counseling, to legal resources, to housing, educational and leadership training and mentorship. Summary of Position

Under the supervision of the Policy and Legal Services Director, the CTTA Training and Technical Assistance Senior Attorney will be responsible for providing training and technical consult to legal and social service providers serving human trafficking victims across the United States. The CTTA Attorney will be responsible for providing in-person trainings, webinars, and engaging in individual case consultations. They will also be responsible for material development to support these trainings. This is a full- time, exempt position.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement creative legal materials and webinars to assist social and legal service providers advocating for trafficked persons
  • Conduct weekly technical assistance (TA) group calls and advanced individual TA consults, especially focused on immigration issues 
  • Conduct in-person 3 day trainings to lawyers and social service providers across the U.S.
  • Develop internal documentation systems and protocols for TTA program

Essential Skills & Requirements

  • At least three years' experience working in the human trafficking field
  • JD and active practice of law for at least five years
  • Experience working with victims of crime, must have a familiarity with the rights of victims of crime and resources available to them
  • Commitment to serving the needs of a diverse group of legal and social service providers working with survivors of human trafficking
  • Ability to develop cooperative relationships with partner TA agencies
  • Demonstrated ability to train and produce training material as well as provide one-on-one TA
  • Demonstrated ability to work with Pro Bono Attorneys
  • Ability to travel frequently

Desired Qualifications

  • D. Active membership in the California State Bar preferred
  • Knowledge about the anti-trafficking movement and issues nationwide
  • Experience with domestic violence, sexual assault and/or stalking issues and legal framework
  • Experience with immigration law; familiarity with the rights of immigrants and resources available to them is a plus
  • Experience in federal and state criminal law, family law, or juvenile delinquency and dependency laws
  • Experience working with federal agencies working on human trafficking cases
