IRC's Global Partnerships and Philanthropy (GPP) department is responsible for the global delivery of the International Rescue Committee’s private sector resources (financially contributing circa USD200m per annum, as well as key partnerships and influence that support our mission), and plays an important strategic role in the creation of IRC’s brand, awareness and support for its advocacy goals.
The IRC's strategy centers on its ambition to continue to improve the scale and effectiveness of IRC programs worldwide with evidence of what works best to impact people’s lives in conflict and fragile settings. GPP comprises colleagues and teams delivering marketing, account management, leadership gifts, board liaison, corporate partnerships, brand stewardship and communications to support this work. These colleagues are primarily located in the USA at present – but IRC plans to significantly expand its global fundraising footprint. Other colleagues within IRC are also deeply engaged with private funding & partners – in particular within Europe, US Resettlement and field programs – and we need to work in close integrated collaboration to ensure best use of resources and highest impact for IRC.
GPP has begun delivering a new radical and ambitious 2020 Private Sector Engagement strategy that will enhance IRC’s ability to ‘punch above its weight’ in income, partnership and awareness. At the same time – believing that the root of our success lies in a high performance team and culture - we need to build our internal infrastructure, ensure we build a strong global team, a dynamic culture, a forward thinking ethos, and establish 21st century analytics, reporting, operational and business management practices that will help us achieve our ambitious goals.
The Institutional Philanthropy & Partnerships team at IRC HQ is focused on the strategic growth and deepening of corporate and foundation partnerships across the United States, and around the world. The Director of Corporate Alliances provides focused strategic leadership to contribute to the team goal to maximize private institutional support for the IRC. The Director is responsible for the IPP team’s expertise in corporate partnership development with a focus on expanding marketing-based partnerships. The Director will provide essential and dynamic leadership within IPP and across the IRC’s Marketing, Communications, and Advocacy departments, working to ensure effective and efficient coordination with IRC colleagues in these departments. The Director will also oversee the IPP Corporate Alliances team, which provides leadership of cause marketing partnerships, employee engagement and matching gift focus areas, and the strategic development and execution of entertainment and media portfolios. The Director is also accountable for the achievement of his/her team’s revenue targets delivered through a varied portfolio of partnership models, including philanthropy, CSR, marketing and cause-linked partnerships, as well as relationships based in the convergence of business and humanitarian interests and objectives from international companies and foundations.
The Director reports to the Senior Director of Institutional Philanthropy & Partnerships, and works in collaboration with a broad constituency of IRC functions, including IRC leadership, as well as the larger fundraising team in NY and internationally (currently UK and Germany) to coordinate and strengthen the IRC’s global private sector proposition and maximize the impact of private institutional support.
- Provide dynamic and effective thought leadership for IPP’s efforts towards increased financial revenue through high-profile domestic and international cause partnerships and sponsorships, corporate employee matching gifts, and other modes of private sector engagement that support impactful delivery of the IRC’s mandate and mission;
- Develop strategic and effective internal IRC partnerships to support IPP’s work that faces the public and external partners;
- Inspire, motivate and challenge his/her team through active mentorship and advising, fostering an environment that supports high quality execution as well as new ideas and innovative approaches to partnership development;
- When Director-level participation is relevant and appropriate, cultivate and solicit high-level, high-impact partnerships that call for a level of seniority/technical competence;
- In collaboration with Sr. Director of IPP, conceive and deliver appropriate innovations that keep the IRC’s private sector partnership proposition stand-out and relevant;
- Support the development and success of a consistent global “one team” approach to the strategic relationship planning, outreach and management for corporations, brands, and other organized groups, towards maximizing the impact of those partnerships in support of the IRC’s mission and mandate, while respecting internal IRC management/reporting structures;
- In collaboration with GPP Department senior managers, contribute to the development and implementation of a best-in-class approach to international private sector engagement and fundraising;
- Lead internally in order to provide assistance and informed professional insight for IRC marketing, communications, and advocacy teams on matters relating to private institutional support and partnerships;
- Identify private sector market and partnerships trends and competitive strengths and weaknesses to inform IPP’s and the wider Revenue Department’s, approach to external engagement;

Education: Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree a plus.
- 10 years professional experience leading and building the infrastructure of a complex private sector revenue program, with a focus on expertise on high quality cause partnerships and sponsorships;
- Proven successful track record of cultivation, solicitation, and management of high-yield, high-value multi-faceted private sector partnerships with an international focus;
- Management experience essential;
- Non-profit and/or international humanitarian aid experience a plus.
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

· Ability to define and implement critical near-term and long-term revenue generation strategies concurrently
· Ability to translate broad vision and strategies into specific objectives
· Deep understanding of effective business development and relationship management approaches for multi-national corporations
· Experience of complex partnership development and relationship management is essential;
· Compelling interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively
· Strong comprehension of actors and trends in the nonprofit and humanitarian sectors
· Strong skills collaborating with multiple and diverse stakeholders across an organization
· Understanding of and experience of communications strategies in support of income generation and broader stakeholder engagement
High pressure, conflicting priorities and multiple projects environment; remote evening and weekend work as required; some international and US travel. This role may require remote working part time (i.e., telecommuting). Applicants must have a home or alternate workspace they can effectively complete their work from during regularly scheduled hours.
