Job Title: Associate Director, FMO

Department: FMO

Classification: Full-Time, Regular, Non Union, Exempt

Reports to: Director of Finance

 

Position Summary:

The Associate Director is a key member of the Financial Management Office, providing accounting and financial support to the organization. We are committed to financial excellence built on accuracy, insightful and timely reporting, and partnership with all departments rooted in the pursuit of shared financial goals.

 

Major Responsibilities:

·        Assume ownership of the design and testing of internal controls for the organization. Make recommendations and redesign workflows as necessary to strengthen the organization’s control environment. Follow through on remediation efforts.

·        Account for donor-restricted funds raised by the organization, ensuring these monies are segregated and tracked appropriately according to donor intent. Manage the release of restricted funds for expenditure in real-time and from a budgeting and planning perspective.

·        Support Program Center leadership and Institutional Support Departments in monthly reporting, financial analysis, and budgeting efforts; design management reporting that highlights key performance indicators.

·        Drive the monthly close, financial statement audit, Form 990 preparation, and interim reporting to banks, donors, government agencies, and other stakeholders.

·        Manage the chart of accounts for the financial software and manage any integration with other systems.

·        Oversee bank reconciliations and reconciliations of various balance sheet line items on monthly basis.

·        Peer-review the team’s work as appropriate; assume leadership of team in absence of Director.

·        Other duties as assigned, including special projects.

 

Educational, Experience, Skills and Qualifications

·        Bachelor’s Degree with major in Audit/Accounting required. CPA preferred.

·        Five years of non-profit accounting experience required. Specialization in restricted fund accounting required, with preference for 2+ years of experience in this area.

·        Must have excellent Excel skills and be highly proficient in all Microsoft Office products and General Ledger systems. Must be adept at learning new systems quickly.

·        Excellent oral and written communication skills. Collaborative by nature.

·        Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

·        Creative problem solver with a willingness to learn and an appetite for challenges.
