Who is Zone 126?

Zone 126’s is as a community-based organization focused on Western Queens and is at the forefront of a collaborative strategy that supports youth attending local under-resourced schools to ensure that they have the skills and resources needed to succeed in life.

Where is Zone 126 located?

Zone 126 is located in Astoria and Long Island City, Queens. Our organization works with three specific zip codes that are each anchored by a NYCHA (New York City Housing Authority) housing development (11101-Queensbridge Houses, 11102-Astoria Houses, and 11106-Ravenswood Houses). A 2018 New York Times Article stated that “Long Island City, Queens, where Queensbridge’s 96 aging buildings are home to a mostly black and Hispanic population with a median household income of $15,843, well below the federal poverty line for a family of four.”

What does Zone 126 do?

Zone 126 coordinates partnerships with local and national service providers from the time a child is born (cradle) until a young adult graduates from college and enters the workforce (college and career). This is known as our Cradle-to-College-to-Career pipeline. Through our partnerships we are collaboratively offering a myriad of services that include early childhood, literacy, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), mental health, career exploration, and college counseling amongst other needed support services.

Zone 126 is seeking a committed and energetic Data & Evaluation Manager that can develop, identify, assist in analyzing, and implementing process, procedures, and protocols to improve data collection and entry efforts at the organization. The Data & Evaluation Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day work operations by establishing and managing data processes to accurately track comprehensive student information in an easily accessible format.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·      Oversee, manage, and continuously develop the Apricot Data Base System

o   Responsible for creating a check and balance for accuracy of all data inputs

·      Meet with Community School Directors and other school-based staff monthly to review program data and plan next steps

·      Develop systems, policies and procedures that are conducive to ensuring fast, easy, efficient, and seamless data collection efforts at the school and community-level

o   Understand and maintain privacy and confidentiality at all points of the data collection, analysis, and reporting process

·      Keep track of various funding sources and the metrics that need to be collected to fulfill grant requirements

o   Support community schools staff achieving their goals towards meeting metrics

o   Support in the preparation of progress reports

·      Create data reports:

o   weekly to be utilized during Leadership Team Meetings

o   monthly to support the Executive Director in reporting out to the Board of Directors

o   monthly to present at All Staff Meetings and share with external evaluation staff

·      Develop mini data trainings to present at All Staff Meetings that support team members’ expanded knowledge of data

·      Communicate in a professional manner (on time, and in standard English)

o   Respond to emails within a 24-hour time period

·      Perform other duties as necessary

Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements

·      Minimum: Bachelors Degree

·      Preferred: College degree strongly preferred, graduate coursework a plus

·      At least 2-3 years’ experience working with data, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and Google Docs

o   Experience with cloud-based databases (e.g. Apricot, Salesforce) preferred; willingness to learn new data management platforms required

o   Ability to develop Google Forms, create Google Drive Folders and organize documents in a cogent manner

o   Ability to manage and filter data across multiple programs and spreadsheets

o   Ability to conduct basic data analytics

·      Extensive organizational skills and can demonstrate the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced office environment

o   Meticulously detail oriented and committed to precision

·      Strong written and oral communication skills; comfortable speaking in small groups

·      Punctuality, attendance, and reliability is a must

·      Bilingual Spanish preferred but not necessary

Reporting Structure & Relationships: The Data & Evaluation Manager will report directly to the Executive Director but have an extensive working relationship with each of the Community School Directors of three schools 

Work Location: This job opportunity will be based at the Zone 126 Headquarters located at:

31-10 23rd St. Ground Floor, Astoria, NY 11106 (easily accessible by the N/W/F trains and/or Q69/Q100 bus line) 

Work Environment/Schedule: This position will be based in person four days a week with the ability to work from home one day a week. The work schedule will be 9 am to 5 pm with the possibility for an evening or weekend on occasion with advanced notification. 

Salary: $45,000 to start with salary increase within the first six months to a year depending on performance (comprehensive benefits package that includes medica, dental, vision, vacation/sick/floating holidays, and 401K plan)
