Deep Center’s Associate Director of Restorative Practices and Culture is a 40 hour/week salaried position that reports directly to the Director of Restorative Practices and Culture. This position will assist in building and facilitating training, dialogue, and support structures for adults throughout Savannah’s ecosystem of youth-serving systems and institutions, such as Savannah-Chatham County Public School System and Chatham County Juvenile Court. The Associate Director functions as a facilitator, curriculum designer, coach, and champion for growth, healing, and transformation of systems by and through individuals. The work will primarily be with adults (like teachers and probation officers) but will also be informed by and in partnership with young people.

CORE COMPETENCIES 

Professional Experience

  • Graduate degree in education, social work, or related field OR at least 3 years of professional experience in a school
  • Understanding of inner workings of schools (e.g. staffing structures, potential interpersonal dynamics, impact of local or state policies, what a ‘typical’ day in the life of a teacher or administrator looks like)


Technical Expertise

  • Knowledge of at least one of the following: research-based trauma informed practices; restorative/transformative-justice practices, or culturally-responsive social-emotional pedagogical practices
  • Knowledge of effective strategies for improving climate and culture within public institutions
  • Understanding of social, economic, and cultural systems and how historical and contemporary structural injustices adversely affect some communities while benefiting others


Interpersonal Skills

  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Assets-based framework for working with adults, youth, and families from diverse cultural backgrounds towards a more just and equitable world
  • A deep commitment to supporting adult stakeholders to adopt and implement policies or practices within youth-serving institutions that are culturally-affirming, humanizing, and healing-centered
  • Ability to collaborate with others to identify and articulate strategic opportunities to promote more equitable and just practices within systems and their cultures

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES 

Developing and Implementing Healing Schools Initiative Programming 

  • Develop Healing Schools Initiative restorative practices curriculum, including school climate and culture transformation tools based on stakeholders’ reflection and desired outcomes, with a healing-centered, transformational focus 
  • Design and facilitate individual workshops or trainings with adults working in youth-serving institutions
  • Providing ongoing coaching and technical assistance to school leaders and educators
  • Maintain strong, strategic relationships with site partners and community adult stakeholders for the successful operation of Healing Schools programming 

In coordination with Director, Restorative Practices and Culture:

  • Drafts program evaluation frameworks and metrics to plan how to document activities and measure impact of programming 
  • Gather data to provide informal and formal reports on success and challenges of programming
  • Maintains strong, strategic relationships with external research and evaluation partners, through active communication and collaboration

Organizational Leadership

  • Supports Director of Restorative Practices and Culture to develop internal protocols and training that establish humanizing and healing centered organizational culture as reflected in official policies and informal practices  
  • Attend national conferences to learn and share Deep Center’s best practices.
  • Organize and attend weekly program meetings to maintain effective communication
