HEAF is a supplemental education and youth development organization that works to help motivated students develop the intellectual curiosity, academic ability, social values and personal resiliency they need to ensure success in school and career.  HEAF identifies students in middle school and supports them to and through four-year colleges, through a variety of after-school, Saturday and summer educational and youth development programs.

Summer Quest’s mission is to ignite intellectual curiosity, and to cultivate academic development through a variety of inquiry and project-based enrichment classes throughout the summer.  Our goal is to offer rising 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th graders an advantage for the upcoming school year.


Program Description:

  • Orientation: June 21st and 22nd
  • Summer Program : July 8th – August 2nd  , 2019
  • Hours: Mondays & Wednesday. 12:30- 3:30 & Friday, August 2nd, 9:00-3:30
  • Location: 80 Willoughby Street, Brooklyn New York, 11201


Course Description:

Students will learn the fundamentals of music theory and experiment with making their own sounds and songs through exploring music-making technology Students will learn to how to structure a song and the fundamentals sound engineering. Students will be encouraged to experiment with technology and work both independently and collaboratively to produce a variety of compositions, such as beats, soundscapes and melodies. Class will culminate in a presentation of student's music.


Instructor Requirements:

  • B.A. in Music Production, Coding, Digital Media, Computer Science,  or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in middle school, high school, or similar youth environments
  • Experience designing curriculum a plus
  • Strong musical knowledge and background
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Willingness to promote HEAF educational and youth development philosophy
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the HEAF staff


Compensation:

$42/ hour for instructional time

$15/ hour for meetings and administrative duties
