Position Purpose:

The Welcome Table is a community of sharing, created to help families, friends and neighbors of St. James School obtain all that they need. A need is an essential or required item, for the thriving of an individual, family or community. Needs do not meet all our wants or desires, but provide us with the foundation needed to reach and obtain them. The Welcome Table, following the research of Abraham Maslow, specifically sees itself as working to meet the needs surrounding the following areas: 

Physical Needs: 

  • Food, Clothing, Shelter, Clean Water

Safety Needs:

  • Financial Security & Education, Legal Services, Employment & Job Readiness 

Love & Belonging Needs:

  • Friendship & Community, Family Support, Belonging and Connectedness, Faith

Esteem Needs:

  • Personal and Communal Dignity, Mutual Respect, Recognition of Personal Gifts

Self-Actualization: 

  • Assisting individuals in personal vocational discernment and exploration


The Welcome Table Coordinator is a newly-created position which will build the capacity of The Welcome Table. The role offers an opportunity to gain substantive non-profit management and direct service experience. The successful candidate will have strong writing and research skills, be detail-oriented, organized, have a community mindset and open to mentorship and the opportunity to quickly learn and grow.

Position Description

Communications and Data

Assist in creating compelling content for a variety of externally-facing communication vehicles (monthly e-newsletter, articles for website, etc).

Gather and capture content using an asset based approach. Interview families, staff members, students, and other stakeholders. Visit classrooms, attend events, take photos. Connect with staff members and stay on top of internal communications (staff notes, school calendar, etc) to identify story ideas.

In collaboration with Advancement Team, provide social media content to highlight The Welcome Table events and ministries

Assists the Head of School and the school’s communications firm in coordinating public relations efforts. Ex: helping gather quotes and requested photos for press outlets, scheduling interviews, etc.


Engaging Faith Communities in Outreach

Collaborates with Associate Director of Donor & Volunteer Engagement to forge/strengthen partnerships with faith communities (both locally and nationally)

Helps implement gift-in-kind appeals for faith communities (food collections, gifts, etc.) 

Connects with key volunteers from partner churches to ensure engagement and support

Partners with the Advancement team to acknowledge faith communities, develop materials to send to churches to show the impact of their gift (ex: student thank you notes, photos, etc).


Engaging Supporters of Color 

Continually seeks opportunities to introduce the work of The Welcome Table to diverse audiences, with a special focus on communities of color. 

Work to grow this constituent group to increase volunteer participation and donor support.

Work to encourage and recruit neighborhood volunteers for program support


Data Management & Research

Conducts research into avenues to further develop programming and partnership opportunities with other nonprofits

Collaborate with a planning team to develop the feasibility study for The Welcome Table’s new adult education program

Collect and organize data/metrics for fundraising purposes, utilizing analytics to measure impact.

Research database and communication tools for The Welcome Table (food sharing, community lending, Sunday Night Community, etc.)  

Ensure accuracy of church and cemetery records

Prepare pre and post paperwork for sacraments & burials 

Field, research and respond to requests for data from church and cemetery records, cultivating ongoing relationship in support of the ministry of the property


Additional Duties

Provides administrative and operations support to The Welcome Table team, such as ordering/maintaining supplies, helping with filing, fielding phone calls.

Assists in program events, including day-of support

Acts as an ambassador for The Welcome Table, giving tours and providing information to prospective and current volunteers and donors

Take advantage of professional development and training opportunities

Helps manage the work of volunteers and graduate interns

Provide assistance with student programming/ school operations as needed (ex: lunch duty, assist in the planning of school wide non-fundraising events, etc.).

Some weekend hours required

  • Experience with the Episcopal Church is helpful

Qualifications

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual with a passion for building community and assisting in further developing a hub for sharing and support for students, families and community members. The successful candidate will demonstrate their skills and knowledge during the interview process through a pre-employment assessment. Specific requirements include:

  • Minimum of a BA/BS
  • Background in nonprofit management preferred
  • Demonstrated success developing and evaluating program models, and selecting and successfully operationalizing innovative programs
  • Strength in recruiting, managing, developing, coaching, and retaining individuals and teams, empowering them to elevate their levels of responsibility and performance
  • Proficient with technology
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to details
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for community building
