The mission of the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) is to build the capacity of our members so they can help older adults and people with disabilities live with dignity and choices in their homes and communities for as long as possible. n4a is a 501(c)(3) membership association representing America’s national network of 622 Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) and providing a voice in the nation’s capital for the 256 Title VI Native American aging programs. Our vision is to build a society that values and supports people as they age.


n4a is the home of the Aging and Disability Business Institute (Business Institute), which, together with its partners, provides community-based organizations (CBOs) with the tools and resources to successfully adapt to a changing health care environment, enhance their organizational capacity and capitalize on emerging opportunities to diversify funding. 


Position Overview

The Program Manager will help to develop, implement, and manage programs and services that align with organizational goals and objectives, including strengthening n4a’s brand and reputation. The successful candidate is a passionate communicator with solid web and social media expertise. Other attributes of the successful candidate are: strong writer, efficient time and project manager, organized and detail-oriented, creative and forward-thinking, a team player able to juggle multiple projects daily.


This position reports to the Director of the Aging and Disability Business Institute at n4a, and will be housed at n4a, which is located at 1730 Rhode Island Avenue, Suite 1200, Washington, DC 20036.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists the Director and Deputy Director of the Business Institute with the day-to-day management of Business Institute programs and initiatives.
  • Develops knowledge, identifies best practices and experts, documents practices, researches and writes new publications, and incorporates new information into print, online and social media communications.
  • Designs, plans and convenes training and technical assistance for community-based aging and disability organizations, including online courses on selected topics.
  • Assists with developing and managing requests for proposals and grant management process, including ongoing support and oversight of grant projects and preparation of reports and other materials on the funded projects.
  • Assists with conferences and special events (e.g., planning educational sessions, making presentations, staffing exhibit booths, disseminating materials,).
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director and Deputy Director of the Business Institute, and n4a senior leadership.


Qualifications

This position requires at least a Bachelor’s Degree in the human services, aging, health care or business administration fields plus 5 years relevant experience or a Master’s Degree in the human services/aging/health care or business administration field with 3 years relevant experience. Experience preferred in aging, disability and/or health care services.

  • Knowledge of aging and/or disability services and/or health care programs. 
  • Program management experience in aging, disability, and/or health care services, including grant management experience.
  • Ability to analyze information, problem-solve, and communicate appropriately with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team, including internal and external partners.
  • Ability to plan and organize work, to juggle multiple tasks and to work independently.
  • Excellent computer (Microsoft), web, and internet skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills that will further enhance a work environment that is professional, but also collegial and creative.


Travel

The successful candidate will be able to travel up to 10 percent of the time, including up to 6 consecutive days at the n4a Annual Conference & Tradeshow every summer.
