REPORTS TO: Communications

SALARY Range: $15K - 17K (for 6 month contract)

 ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

TGI Justice Project’s (TGIJP) mission is to build the collective power of Black trans folks, centering Black trans women and especially those of us who have been or are currently incarcerated. We work in collaboration with others to forge a culture of resistance and resilience to strengthen us for the fight against human rights abuses, imprisonment, police violence, racism, poverty, and societal pressures. We seek to create a world rooted in self-determination, freedom of expression, and gender justice. Our members are low-income transgender women of color and our families who are in prison, formerly incarcerated, or targeted by the police. 

POSITION OVERVIEW

Assist the Communications Director. The communications director is responsible for disseminating communications both in print and in digital platforms. They are also responsible for developing and implementing communications campaigns and initiatives, managing TGIJP’s social media footprint, working with staff to adjust editorial messages, and assisting with development coordinator to help with our annual report’s aesthetics. Graphic Designer will assist Communications Director in delivery.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Illustration of custom graphics and graphic templates to be posted on various social media platforms, including but not limited to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and TGIJP’s website (including the image description)
  • Creating custom imagery for TGIJP’s website and TGIJP forms as needed for implementation of social rebranding. Designing flyers for TGIJP programming and events 
  • Assist with TGIJP’s biannual magazine, Stiletto- our publication of personal narratives, art, culture, history, and dispatches from inside the carceral system. 

QUALIFICATIONS & WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in graphic arts, design, communications, or related field
  • 1 or more years of experience in graphic design
  • Basic knowledge of layouts, graphic fundamentals, typography, print, and the web
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS preferred
  • Knowledge of Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator, Sketch, InDesign, and other graphic design software
  • Compelling portfolio of work over a wide range of creative projects
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent eye for detail
