Emily’s Entourage (EE) is seeking a part-time (20 hours per week) Director of Strategic Partnerships to manage, cultivate and grow relationships with funders, external stakeholders and strategic partners.

The Position

The Director of Strategic Partnerships will spearhead partnerships in support of EE’s urgent mission to speed life-saving breakthroughs and a cure for individuals with a rare form of Cystic Fibrosis caused by “nonsense mutations.” This role will vitally contribute to the organization’s growth and drive the achievement of ambitious revenue goals. The ideal candidate will be a skilled relationship developer and partnership manager; a driven, goal-oriented fundraiser; and a strategic thinker.

EE has built a robust corporate partnership and foundation grant program that currently generates approximately 25% of the organization’s annual revenue. The funds raised through this program drive EE’s aggressive investment in research to speed therapeutic development for nonsense mutations of CF. EE’s current portfolio of corporate and foundation supporters includes more than 30 life sciences, medical device, and industry partners who support EE through annual sponsorship, sponsorship of special events or digital awareness campaigns, or foundation operating grants. As the organization’s work continues to advance, there is immense opportunity to strengthen and form new strategic partnerships and develop innovative revenue streams to drive EE’s critical mission.

The Director of Strategic Partnerships will join a core team of seven, including a full-time Director of Operations and Marketing and Program Manager, a part-time Fundraising and Special Events Manager, a part-time Patient Registry Coordinator, a part-time Database Manager, and two co-founders. Additionally, EE is in the process of hiring a Chief Scientific Officer. The Director of Strategic Partnerships will report to the co-founders.

The organization is based in Bala Cynwyd, PA but is currently virtual due to COVID-19. This position is open to local and remote applicants.

The Organization

EE is an innovative 501(c)3 that funds research for new treatments and a cure for nonsense mutations of Cystic Fibrosis (CF), a fatal genetic disease afflicting Emily and many others. Since 2011, Emily’s Entourage has awarded millions of dollars in research grants, launched a CF gene therapy company that has been acquired by a large pharmaceutical company, and led worldwide efforts to drive high-impact research and drug development.

The foundation’s work is particularly critical now as revolutionary breakthroughs are available for 90% of the CF population, but those with nonsense mutations fall in the outlying 10% that do not benefit from these major advances. EE is laser-focused on changing that—and doing it fast, so nobody is left behind.

Importantly, the work of EE holds the potential to benefit not only those with nonsense mutations of CF. Roughly 12% of all genetic diseases are caused by nonsense mutations, which means 30 million people worldwide live with a disease caused by a nonsense mutation. The research that EE is spearheading has the potential to have wide-reaching effects, far beyond the CF community.

EE has been featured in the New York Times, STAT, CNN, TheSkimm, People, and more. Emily was named a “Champion of Change” for President Obama’s Precision Medicine Initiative and is the recipient of the 2016 Global Genes Rare Champion of Hope for Advocacy Award and the 2020 Philadelphia Magazine Luminary Award.
