Kitchen Assistant

Face to Face is a comprehensive human service organization in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia. We serve thousands of people each year through our Dining Room and other programs. With an approach of hospitality, mutuality, and transformation, we provide a safe environment and practical tools through which our clients can confront personal challenges, empower their lives and fulfill their unique potential.

The kitchen assistant will report directly to our chef and will be responsible for assisting in the successful operation of the Face to Face dining room program.

Principle duties and responsibilities:

·        Assist our chef in creating seasonal menus for as many as 200 people each Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter Days.

·        Responsible for all dishes and pans being cleaned and put away each day.

·        Maintain cleanliness of equipment, floors and all work surfaces in kitchen and pantries.

·        Assist in unloading and storing daily donations and deliveries.

·        Perform food preparation work as directed.

·        Follow and comply with all applicable health and sanitation procedures and adhere to safe work practices.

·        Participate in and help to oversee the work of volunteers each day to ensure a welcoming, enjoyable environment.

·        Interact and show genuine enthusiasm to our guests, volunteers and other staff members.

·        Be a valued team member by assisting your colleagues when needed.

·        Attend and participate in weekly dining room staff meetings and bi-monthly evening meetings.

·        Other duties as assigned.


·        Interest in food preparation.

·        A welcoming, positive and enthusiastic attitude and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced ever-changing environment.

·        The ability to carry loads up to 50 pounds, push carts weighing up to 100 pounds, and stand for long periods of time.

·        Reliable transportation and the availability to work each weekend and major holidays.

·        Good written and verbal communication skills.

·        Be well presented at all times.

·        Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work as a crucial member of our team.

Hours: 35 hours/week: Each Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and all major

Holidays - 8:30am-3:30pm; Sundays – 9:30am – 4:30pm
