    About Bridgeport Farmers Market Collaborative

    The Bridgeport Farmers Market Collaborative is a network of farmers markets that improves access to locally-grown produce and makes it more affordable, while supporting the local economy and building community across the city.

    The Bridgeport Farmers Market Collaborative (BFMC) operates nutrition benefit programs like Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Matching, Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) bonuses for Women Infant and Children (WIC) recipients and Seniors, and $5 Bridgeport Bucks to improve the availability and accessibility of CT-Grown produce available at our network of farmers markets. BFMC also conducts community outreach and marketing on behalf of the farmers markets to increase attendance and awareness, and implements other programming to boost market growth and viability. BFMC members represent farmers markets and farm stands from organizations across the city of Bridgeport and share a mission to combat nutrition insecurity in food deserts.

    We are seeking a Development Consultant to grow our development portfolio and expand BFMC’s access to funding. The Development Consultant will move forward BFMC’s development plan to include grant research and writing, crafting letters of inquiry, cultivating relationships with potential funders, and creating a long term funding strategy to support the work of BFMC in combating nutrition insecurity. Applicants must be interested in helping BFMC to strategize on organizational growth and future planning. The Development Consultant will have at least two years demonstrated experience in development, philanthropy, fundraising, grant writing, or related field.

    Job Functions:

    • Move forward BFMC’s development plan and expand it into a long term funding strategy to support the work of BFMC in combating nutrition insecurity
    • Grant research, writing, and submission
    • Craft letters of inquiry to potential funders and develop relationships
    • Strategize on organizational growth and future planning
    • Analyze BFMC budget needs and develop and execute a funding strategy in response to these needs

    Qualifications:

    • At least two years of demonstrated experience in nonprofit development, philanthropy, fundraising, grant writing, or a related field preferred.
    • Proven track record of successfully securing grants and contributions from diverse funding sources.
    • Strong research skills with the ability to identify and assess potential funding opportunities.
    • Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
    • Experience in cultivating and stewarding relationships with key stakeholders
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with time sensitivity.
    • Ability to manage nonprofit budgets and understand financial needs based on funding timelines.
    • Passion for and commitment to BFMC’s mission of combating nutrition insecurity and promoting healthy communities through supporting farmers markets and CT farmers.

    Additional Information:

    • This position is fully remote, but periodic in-person meetings in Bridgeport, CT, may be required with advance notice.
    • This position is hourly and contract-based, with flexible hours.
    • Pay is up to $45-60/hour based on experience for a maximum of 15 hours a month
